My plan is to do the Sprint and I'd love to get up to the area for a test run.

So if you or anyone else is up for treking up there for a group ride, let me know.

At this point, I'm thinking the next decent weather weekend.

Hi there! I'm working toward Black Bear as my 1st HIM too! I live in Delaware County, PA, and usually train during the day (when the kids are at school). If that works for you, I would love to find folks to do long bikes with during the week when the weather gets warmer. (But it looks like from your training schedule you probably train before/after work...)

By the way, check out my "Early Season HIM Support" thread over on the Iron Distance forum...

My general schedule for now is:

Mon: swim/bike
Tues: swim/run
Wed: long bike
Thurs: swim/run
Fri: bike/yoga
Sat: long run

I'll add bricks later in the program....

Hmmm ~ 136 Miles North & 2:36 hours drive from Cherry Hill that's too far
Thanks for the "Early Season HIM Support" thread, looks like we all have similar issues.
My plan is to do a triathlon every Sun, 1st and 2nd sessions were 2:20 Hours long, plan to build it up to 4-5 Hours. Starting the season with 10 miler run and Sprint Tria in May (See Draft List)

Not sure what map you're lookin' at - Delaware county is just west of Philadelphia (think "Media/Swarthmore" exit from the Blue Route.... I bought my last bike in Cherry Hill - so I know it's not THAT far away! Sounds like we're on different training schedules, anyway....

jsnowash is correct. Cherry Hill is 90 miles (significantly less if you drive like my girlfriend) and I would guess about 90 or so minutes since it's almost all highway, depending on traffic.

I guess Google maps mislead me on Yahoo maps Trip distance id : 33.38 miles Time: 49mins
Now it make sense. Philly is RIGHT in the middle.
Do you guys know if there are BT Group rides in Philly area?

Not to sound like an ad, but Philly Tri club is always welcoming new members. Have group rides/runs, especially as the weather gets warmer. Good people of all ages and levels. I joined last year and have enjoyed it. They also do a weekend up at Jim Thorpe in late April where you get to punish yourself on the hills and ride part of the Black Bear course. Wish everyone the best of luck at Black Bear.

I'll be doing the sprint as my tri season opener for this year (and my "farewell to the Northeast" race, as I will be moving to CO the following week).  Looking forward to it!

There are admittedly not a lot of members on the Jersey side. I train in the Washington Township/Mullica Hill area. I usually go out with a local bike shop ride on Wed nights and Sun mornings. There are several triathletes in our group and they have an A and B/C ride so it is not all fast riders. This usually starts the end of March when the weather warms up. We usually go to the Thursday night open water swim that CGI sponsors. Highly recommended. This is a great opportunity to practice sighting in dark deep water and get used to your wetsuit. The link is on their website and it is about 10 mins from my house so it is very convenient. Plus you will get to meet the race directors prior to Black Bear and can ask them any questions you have face to face. They are nice people.

I don't know much about Team Triumph, but I'm sure they are a great group as well and if there are a lot of them in the Cherry Hill area, then that may work best for you. Especially if they have training rides. I would definately check them out. Philly Tri has training rides every week, but they are usually along the Schuykill down by Manyunk. Not always convenient for us Jerseyites.

By the way, my pool is 25 meters in length (local LA Fitness - it is such a meathead gym that the pool is usually wide open and they have 5 lanes). No offense to any meatheads out there. Your training log settings must be set for yards and when you look at mine it probably converts. Mine is in meters and the distances are even numbers...ie 1600, 2400, ect.

Best of luck. See you at Black Bear.

Members of Team Triumph (http://www.teamtriumphsnj.com/) are headed up on Saturday to ride the full course and run for about 40 minutes after.  Some are even talking about bringing up the wetsuit.  We are leaving the Cherry Hill area around 6:45 Saturday morning.

Actually, i think your racelink had only 1/2 iron participants.  There are 21 more on the Sprint at this one:

we've got quite a posse goin to the Bear.

Hey all,

I'm going up to do a test ride on the bike (to see how hilly it actually is) Saturday.  I'm considering taking my tri bars off because it might be too hilly (i have a road bike with clips on).  Any suggestions?

 Thanks!!
Erin

I've ridden the course a couple of times now. It's hilly, but not too bad. Lots of up & down, but a few flatter stretches as well. I can stay in my aerobars for most of the course. I'm up out of them at the end of some of the longer or steeper climbs... I'd say leave them on for your test ride and see what you think. If you find you're not really using them on the test ride, then go ahead and take them off for the race.
