I live close by, so even if I'm not racing I'll be there in some capacity. We'll definitely have a meet up of some kind.

The climb into Lodi and Ovid is one you'll remember, but the section after it is so worth it.

I'll be staying near Watkins Glen, about 35-40 minutes away, but plan on spending most of Saturday in Geneva for Pancake Breakfast, Packet Pickup, Mandatory Pre-race meeting and probably playing with the kids at the Water Spray park at Seneca Lake State Park.  Then Sunday is race Day and will spend the following week BBQ-ing and Boating on the lake.  Btw: This Sunday is officially 20 weeks to race day!!  Start those 20 week training plans!!

I purposely chose to ignore the climbing comment, hoping that if I ignore it, the landscape will somehow transform itself into a flat prairie with a 20mph tailwind!

I know the profiles seem intimidating, but we've still got 20 weeks!!

There are some tough sections, but you'll have good recovery after them in most cases (as far as I can remember!)

For any Islanders heading up for the race, I did a bulk of my long runs and bricks at SUNY Old Westbury, there are some pretty solid loops you can get into over there.

-Is BT going to work an ITU aid station again this year? I had a ton of fun with that last year, it was amazing, and inspiring watching those pros fly by!!

I have a massive amount of questions for you all just to compare notes, and so I know what to expect.

So do most of you stop to refill hydration bottles, or do you carry all of them on the bike? Do you refill your aero bottle with another bottle from your bike, or do you just drink from another bottle?
What kind of hydration systems do each of you use?

Also, are Porta-potties on the course? If not how does one answer the call of nature on this course? Is it a stand up and "let it flow on the go" kind of thing, or is it a "find a tree and pee" kind of thing?

What kind of nutrition plans do you use? What real food, bars, gels, and drinks do you use? How much plain water do you carry?

Ok, I just confirmed that BT will be sponsors again this year!!

We'll be running the aid stations for the run course at the mini-mussel on Saturday morning and the ITU Pan American cup on Saturday afternoon. We'll also have a tent in the State Park on both days for BTers to get a bit of shade and meet up with each other.

Sarah, to answer your questions: I use an aerobottle for water and keep my carb drink in a regular bottle. The aerobottle can be refilled on the fly and the carb drink can just be handed up. Don't put carb drinks in an aerobottle. You and your bike will both end up sticky.

I don't recall if there are porta potties on the bike course, you'll have to check with the RD, Jeff Henderson.  Lots of people just stand up and let go. Please check behind you first.

A nutrition plan is a very individual thing that you'll have to work out by trial and error on your long workouts. On the bike at HIMs I alternate carb drink and water every 10 minutes and eat solid food every 20. I start with clif bars then change to gels after 2 hours.

Bear in mind that I'm also very slow. Laughing

 See you in Geneva!

I'm a bit confused. Are you asking what's the furthest we've gone in each discipline in training for Musselman, or furthest ever gone period, or longest race ever done?

4100m swim session (I've also done the race distance in a straight swim, my head play games with me and I need to remind myself I can swim the distance), 16 mile run (Boston training), 1:45 trainer ride...I need to spend some serious time on the bike.

2500m swim, 28m bike, and 7.3 run.  Guess it's lucky we still have 19 weeks!  Wifey gave me 3 hr pass to train tomorrow, weather supposed to suck, so it might be my first foray into the 3hr trainer zone.  Luckily I just got 2 new flix from NetFlix.  I signed up for the bike challenge and committed to 22 hours on the bike, which would be a new PB for me.  As much as I suck at running, I am most worried about the bike, since I can always walk up a hill during the run.  Also, if I struggle mightily on the bike, the run/jog/walk will be a 13.1 mile suffer fest.

The Mini-Mussel is sure to attract a lot of BT'ers too. I might do that one this year, depends on commitments, timing etc.

I don't know how I missed this before Mike, please don't take offense, but don't sign up! I know you have a history of bringing scorching heat with you wherever you go!

I'm planning on riding the course sometime in late april or early may. I figured that I would drive out, and ride on Saturday, maybe do the run on Sunday. I guess we'll see but, there is definitely a trip from Saratoga before the race.

That only applies when I do Half Irons, not Sprints or Olys.

I'm going to be running the aid station on the run course for the Sprint, so those of you doing the Mini-Mussel are safe from the heat on Saturday.

For those of you doing the Musselman on Sunday, I might do it as part of a relay team. So bring your sunscreen.

Just wonderful

How difficult is it to get in and out of town(and around) town on Saturday with the mini-Mussel and ITU event going on?  I'll be coming up from Watkins Glen, anybody know if it would be better/easier to come up the eastern/western side of the lake on Saturday?

SweetK - 2008-03-10 8:32 AM This will be my first HIM. I have swum 3500yds many times, LSD runs between 10-16 miles and bike (winter) most about 2hrs - with Spring breaking soon, that number will go up quickly I'm content with my winter base-building except for the bike. I'll have to play catch up in the Spring. Also I can't wait!!! I volunteer for ITU water stop if we are doing it this year again

Excellent! Yup, we're doing the run aid station at the Mini-Mussel and the ITU race again this year.

Yup..I'm still building my bike base.  Mainly because it's been too cold to run outside and bike/run is where I need most help.  I (hopefully) will get more balanced and am going to try and do at least 3/3/2 (bike/run/swim) per week.  Like Kristen, this will also be my first HIM and I am very nervous.  Not to mention with one phone call, I would have 15-20 jockstrappers at the race.  I'll decide closer to race day whether or not to let my old friends know I'll be in the area.  I'd love to help with Aid Station, but I'll have family in tow, so it will have to be a game day decision.
