I'm still a new runner, but the most miserable so far was on Monday.

It was about 25 degrees (F) and a drizzling rain. There have been more pleasant days.

A blizzard in Jersey. In April.

I was doing a long run for my first marathon a few years ago. It started out cool and breezy in miles 1 and 2, but by the time I hit mile 16, we had a full on snow storm, the kind with those enormous snowflakes. I was wearing my sunglasses (because, doncha know, it had been SUNNY earlier) so that protected my eyes from the onslaught. To my credit, I kept going and finished the run, but it wasn't pleasant.

Worst ever - couple of years ago I bundled up and headed out on a run - temp was around -20C and the wind was brutal (I think the windchill was around -35C).  I was heading out for a long run but due to the weather, cut it short (1 hour).  Unfortunately, I wasn't home so I didn't know the route and the one I chose ended up looping around to have a tailwind for most of the going out.  Didn't seem too bad until I turned around and started back - brrr

I was frozen - even with my cold weather gear, it took at least an hour to get warmed up again to the point that my knees stopped hurting.

Since then, I decided that on occasion, running on the treadmill is a better plan, especially in the cold and/or icy conditions

Did a long run once with a teammate with a tornado about 2 miles away from us.  We had no idea what was going on but the branches flying all over the place convinced us we needed to hide somewhere.  So some guy had his garage door open so we ran in there to take cover.  After about 20 minutes, the weather calmed down enough for us to take off.  I don't know that the people that lived in the house knew we were ever there, and I've never figured out why they had their garage door open in that kind of weather.  But we were grateful .

Daremo - 2008-01-23 8:23 PM

So if you are planning to race in Baja Mexico but train in Canada it may make sense to do some indoor stuff with controlled higher temps to acclimate yourself.

I agree with what Daremo says.  11 years ago I had my coldest run (fortunately a short one) after Christmas - about -30 degrees C.  Then I went to Orlando to run the Disney Marathon in 86 degree F heat.  I didn't have a horrible race but it wasn't prize-winning either!

Two years ago i ran my first half marathon in late May in Wisconsin. The weather had been typical for that time of year--50s and 60s, cool. A couple of days before the race, the temps spiked into the 90s with high humidity. The race officials weren't ready for it and ended up closing the marathon course a couple of hours early. At 5am on race day it was 72F with something like 90% humidity. We were coated in sweat just standing there.

i love running in the rain, the cold, the snow, the wind... but heat and humidity just sucks everything out of me. The conditions on race day weren't that bad even, but no one had a chance to acclimate to the weather. That was the only time i've run and wondered why i was out there.

Being in Michigan I run in all weather - even the negatives, I just make sure to bundle up all my appendages so i don't get frostbite!  I prefer winter running to summer any day.  You have not lived until you have ran in the middle of a blizzard.  So serene.  I love being the first to make foot prints in the snow on a trail!

As far as worst it would have to be last Summer when I ran a few miles after work - it was 95% humidity and 100 * outside - I about died.

I second that. I lived in Evanston, Ill for a while and ran a few times in blizzards. I loved it.

It's a tie for me - I have two.  Once was deer flies........I mistakingly went down into a hollow (following the edge of a field) and was swarmed by deer flies.  They kept getting in my hair and biting, so I grabbed a branch to swat at them while I ran back up a very long, steep hill as fast as I could.  It had to be hilarious to watch, and boy, what a great tempo run that was.

The second was a training run for a marathon.  I fell at mile 2 of a 20 mile run and cut up both of my hands and knees pretty well.  I decided to keep going because I figured if I could make it that day, the marathon would be a breeze.  I think I got a little loopy there at the end.........talking to myself and whatnot.

My extremes are extreme but not extremely extreme like some of you extremists. At least I covered my extremities in the cold.

Last Friday was -1F with 16mph winds gusting to 25mph. With the exception of parts of my face, I was actually overdressed and got too warm. Go figure.

Lifetime Fitness Tri in July 2006 was miserable. Something like 95F with high humidity and not a cloud in the sky. It was supposed to be my first OLY but they cut off about 3 miles from the bike and made the run a 5K. The lake was bathwater warm at 85F, the bike wasn't so bad since we were moving but once I hopped off the bike to run the heat hit me like a truck. There's a little out-and-back over a concrete bridge on the run and I swear you could see the energy get sucked out of everyone with the heat radiating off the pavement. I swear I'll never race in weather like that ever again! I'd rather eat my entry fee.

I'll take the bitter cold over the opressive heat any day!

So far I appear to be in hibernation here, my first winter as a triathlete in a moderately cold climate.  See logs:  almost no training.  BUT!  Hot and humid would be pretty typical for Houston, where I started this mess.  99% humidity much of the summer.   Sweat dripping off the bill of my cap.  What i learned is that at anything above 98 degrees, running slows to a tai-chi-like motion.
