Though no one would mistake me for Lou Ferrigno, I'm not a newbie in the weight room. Usually I mix some running or riding in with a weights workout and dress for those activities. Sometimes, if I'm just doing weights, if I'm already wearing jeans and a short sleave shirt I might think "good enough" and not bother to change. I can guess what some people are thinking: "hey check out the nube in the street clothes."

Anyone else do this, or is proper fashion considered a must when you're grunting and farting in the weight room?

do you really care what others think about you? I try to wear SHORT shorts with my shaved leggs and a hot pink 1/2 shirt.... grunting and yelling as I throw on another 5lb plate.

Some folks do stay in street clothes at my gym. I'd say it does look a little funny and I would think not very comfortable or conducive to a good workout but to each his own. If it works for you that's good enough.

Personally, I would probably be one of the people looking at you funny. Why not just throw on some sweats or shorts? I cant possibly imagine it is comfortable working out in jeans.. not to mention they must get completely nasty from sweat and gym dirt.

ya know.. I wouldn't care .. you aren't there for me and my workout.. so why should I care what you do.. or look like ? not to be a dink or anything .. but unless you have a gym class or a workout team.. who am i to say what you should or should not be wearing ?

I'd think it was odd b/c all of the gym's I've been a part of have had a no street clothes rule.  I don't know how much they enforce it...but they have had it and I've seen signs posted.

With that said, I never workout at all in jeans...too uncomfortable.  But I'm a girl so of course..my jeans aren't baggy.  And I want to at least be comfortable in my workout attire because otherwise, I don't think I'd get as good a workout.  If I were you, I'd keep some sweat pants in the car for days when you think you would just lift weights.

I work at a hospital and inbetween patients, I will zip upstairs to the gym....2 min. walk.... Get in 15 min of a particular body part or perhaps two parts, alternating with minimal rest, then throw my lab coat on and see patients. I am one of many here that do that....I don't do that with any leg workouts but everything else I can do in my khakis and golf shirt if I know time after work for the gym doesn't exist that day....

Our gym has a "no jeans" policy.  They say it is because you can do damage to the seats etc. with the rivets in most jeans.

I do not mind others doing it if the gym allows it, but for me, I would be soaking wet.

For those who duck in for a few minutes thoughout the day, do feel you get any gains without working out hard enough to work up a sweat?

I was going to mention that also.  The potential to anything metal, rivet or belt buckles, to catch and rip the padding.

Otherwise, where what you want.  I’ll still think it’s funny looking in a weight room though.

I would look at you funny. Jeans are a no-no in my gym (harms equipment), and in my 20 years of lifting weights I have never worn jeans to the gym (I have worn my dress shoes once!). I can't imagine it takes a whole lot of effort to throw on some sweats.

Jean wearers bother me much less than stinky people (bo or cologne)!

I did once see a guy at Ballys working out in dress pants, shirt and TIE! Honest... he was doing curls. Looked amazingly ridiculous.

Awww, people in the weight room are looking at themselves in the mirrors.  They never notice anyone else .... unless they are blocking their view of themselves in the mirror.

I have seen dress clothes too.  I am sure you get the exact same result as wearing short/t-shirt (minus lookin ridiculous).  My thought is if you are dressed for work you will not be in the right mindset to excersise period, same with jeans.  If you don't have time to properly excerise shorting up your routine and change clothes.

I've always been in gyms where the signs are posted about your attire being appropriate to the activity--along with the cell phones are prohibited in the locker rooms and workout area...I've never seen the cell phone rule enforced but no one dresses in jeans or nice clothes in my gym unless they're coming in from or leaving for work.  I think it's funny to see women coming in with their hair all done nice and make up on though--I get so sweaty and nasty it would look pitiful so that is definitely NOT ME

I'd be more concerned with your farting...

i'm just happy that they are there.  sometimes you just have to get that workout in and you do it in what ever you have available.  my attitude is that not that the person looks funny but they are so hardcore they don't care what they look like.  as long as they can get through the proper range of motions the workouts gonna be just as effective no matter what they wear.  i see medical people working out in scrubs all the time.  i've done it myself.  admittedly, its much more comfortable to wear more appropriate clothes but if i see you in the gym in jeans and a t-shirt, i'm more likely to admire you than laugh at you.

I can't believe this thread is still on the front page. Today I ran into "stinky guy" at my gym. Seriously, that's his name amongst the regulars. This guy, he must be French, is always in his nutter spandex shorts (yes as revealing as it sounds) with a loosely fit sweat shirt with cut off sleeves and the cut out neck (you know the look I'm talking about). Well, this guy must have a thing against showering, and he just spreads his rank BO throughout the gym. I have smelled this guy for years...I would treasure a guy in a tuxedo over this guy any day.

You combine the stink with his inappropriately revealing nutter shorts, he is the perfect storm.

Saw a guy today who had made a misjudgement when shortening a sweatshirt and his stomach was peaking out like he was wearing a half shirt while just standing there. Hysterical!
