Subject: SE Michigan race in April/May??
Hi everyone,

this will be my first season of tris... I was checking on the Internet for sprint or olympic distance races locally here around Ann Arbor. The earliest I have found is the Seahorse Challenge in Kalamazoo on June 1 and that is already on my calendar.

Is anyone around here planning to do an earlier race? It is probably easy to find earlier races further down south, is there anything around here?

forgot to add:

Hawks Island Sprint in Lansing/EastLansing is also on the first.  I've never down it, but I will be this year.

April 6, Martian Marathon.  It's a classic. Come watch stupidness in person. Heh. And we run fast.

April 26 & 27, The Trail Marathon, at pinckney, on the potowotami, it's huge.  You don't need much more than this to be in shape for tri-season.

Then there's the Wolverine 200, May 24th. On Belle Isle, it's a great way to log huge miles at pace.  The opportunity to log big miles on a closed course is amazing.

You're not gonna find a tri, nor an outside swim, before june, in MI. It's a fact. Giddyup.

I had planned on doing the Pokagon State Park Olympic Triathlon on May 17th near Angola, Indiana, but I have some things putting that plan on hold at this point. Hopefully things work out. It's 140 miles or so for me one way, but It's the closest one I found that early in the season at the Oly distance.

Memphis in May is the same May weekend, but much further.

My neighbor did this last year and had good things to say.  10k run is mostly on trails, making it challenging/fun.  I'm in for '08.

I did Pokagon last year - it was very well organized and I thought was a great venue... there were not a ton of people (which was nice). Make sure you have a wetsuit, as the water was cold. Bike was decent - normal Indiana potholes, but not bad at all. Run was a killer - fairly hilly trail run. I'm 50/50 for this year.

Great tip about Pokagon, looks like I will be in...

I did both the Martian half and the Trail half marathon last year, both were a lot of fun, for very different reasons
