Subject: MD tri clubs
Can anybody recommend a tri club in So. MD? I live in the Silver Springs area. Just moved from New Hampshire in August. Any input would be great!

Silver Spring is in Southern Maryland?  In that part of Maryland I'd go with Mid Maryland Tri Club.  www.midmdtriclub.org

You're also close enough to the city to easily take advantage of the DC Tri club.  I joined not long ago and haven't really done much with them so far, but it's a very active club with tons of activities (including happy hours).  I live in Greenbelt and was torn between the DC club and the mid maryland club and went with DC just because I like the city and it just seemed to have alot more to offer.  It's definitely a case of what works best for you as I know both clubs have great members and support.

There are a number of tri clubs in the area, and I might even be forgetting a couple:

  • Mid Maryland Triathlon Club (MMTC)
  • DC Triathlon Club (DC Tri)
  • Capital Area Triathlon Club (CATS)
  • Reston Area Triathlon Club (RATS)
  • Annapolis Triathlon Club
  • Another one near Frederick/Mt. Airy
  • The one already mentioned in southern Maryland
  • Baltimore Area Triathlon Club (BATC)

It all depends on what you're looking for.  I'm with MMTC.  I checked out BATC and MMTC a few years ago (due to my location) and picked MMTC because they were larger and seemed to be more active.  If you're comparing MMTC withi DC Tri, MMTC is a bit less focused on socializing and more family-oriented.  From what I've heard, DC Tri is very social and singles-oriented.  MMTC is probably up around 300 members right now, but I think DC Tri is still larger.  All the clubs stay pretty much local to their locations.  Feel free to PM me if you want more info.
