Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 5:30. I wanted to leave the house at 5:30 a.m.. I use my cell phone for the alarm - it was under my pillow! Argh. Called Yanti, WAKE UP! be there in 10min.. It was a good thing I had laid out absolutely all my stuff the night before...I didn't have time to think. I got dressed, grabbed my cereal and out the door. Raining. Poo.
Event warmup:

What is that? Warm up? Stood for 30 minutes almost in the wind and rain waiting for the shuttle to the start. Completely soaked before we even started running. Got to the start just in time.

Comments:

Ran a solid 3:2 the entire way with only one bathroom break. Ran with my Pop. It was fun and something neither of us would have ever thought would happen. I mentioned how the wind was tough when we were running into it, he said, "oh this wind is for sissies". He's 69 and has a thick cuban accent. Too funny. Overall, a great run even with the hideous weather. Saw Elvis - ooohhh he called me "little mama!" swoon! High-5 Yanti at about the turnaround. One thing I always think about when I do a race is how lucky I am that I am able...you see those heroic, amazing, inspirational people out on the course with one leg or a cane doing it and finishing. God bless them! I really can't complain.
What would you do differently?:

Buy a rain pancho and waterproof the shoes. Maybe just maybe believe the weatherman once in a blue moon when he says it might rain. Oh and definitely not eat mexican food, pizza AND cake the day before a race EVER again. No.
Post race
Warm down:

You see now the opposite had to be done - I had to warm up. Walked around a bit, found Yanti in the tent after we got goody bags.

ROCK ON!!! You and Pop were great. I can't believe your good humor and cheer despite the ickiness of the day. You put in a fantastic race and you looked sooooooo good out there. Thanks for the high five. It made me feel so good I forgot the phlegm for about five seconds.

Great job out there Dolores

I am very dissapointed I missed my chance to get my High Five on the course though

I looked for you and Yanti as I was running along but the course was full of Marathoners and it was tough to spot folks. (I think I did see Evis though) Very cool that you ran with your Pop. (Could not imagine a better way to spend the day)

Saw the post-race photo of you and  Yanti with your medals and you certainly look like your having the time of your life

Way to stick it out with the cruddy conditions and run a great race.

Great Race!

I hear you on believing the weather man. I mean we've had several storms this month and everyone has hit the day after projected or not and all so I couldn't believe it when I got up and the it was already coming down!
