Swim
Comments: There were 3 large lanes with 3 swimmers in each so no one impeding anyone else. We picked tiles for lanes and I was dreading being in the middle and not being able to keep a straight line. Luckily I chose by a lane line. At the far side of my lane was a girl who was my pace (a bit faster towards the end) so it was perfect pacing. Laps were counted rounded down to the nearest half length (0.25 lap) when the whistle blew. What would you do differently?: Be more confident in flip turns. I tried a couple in the warm up and just couldn't judge the wall properly. It was a different kind of edge to the one I am used to but even in the actual swim I found I was on the wall before I thought. Weird. Transition 1
Comments: 5mins to get out of pool and get ready for the bike which was on other side of building. Quite a tight transition but volunteers were very helpful setting up bikes for you. What would you do differently?: nothing. I was one of the last to arrive there though - story of my life with transitions! Bike
Comments: All bikes set to same resistance and I think it was too low - once the momentum was going it was just whizz your legs around as fast as possible. Volunteers were amazing, coming round encouraging and counting down the time (which was on a big digital clock as well) What would you do differently?: Nothing. Spin biking isn't my speciality but this was quite amusing. Transition 2
Comments: This transition was quite easy - except for the stairs! We had to go up 2 levels to the indoor track. I had just pulled on some tri bottoms on over my swimsuit for the bike and now a lady helped me get my tri top on over my swimsuit for the run Run
Comments: 11th equal as quite a few people got 30 laps (though no other females) This was fun until my legs got tired! I didn't particularly like all the corners and banking though. The volunteers were amazing. We each had our own counter who introduced themselves at the start and cheered us on. I heard encouraging words and my name on EVERY lap. What would you do differently?: Nothing. This is fine for where I am in the season. Apart from the couple of races I have done everything at E pace so no complaints. It would be nice to be able to finish stronger though Post race
Warm down: Hanging on to edge of the rail and panting til I got my breath back. Then I watched the next wave set off and went downstairs to shower and change. Very civilised What limited your ability to perform faster: Base training Event comments: Volunteers were amazing and so enthusiastic and encouraging. Very well run race. Due to the spacing of waves (8am to 12pm) not a lot of people hanging around right to the end so post race atmosphere not great. Last updated: 2008-01-17 12:00 AM

What a nice change not to have to get up early. This race was done in waves in the pool and I was at 11.00am. So got up as "normal", breakfast and relaxed. Only took 15mins to drive downtown but I went an hour and a half early to get the lie of the land
There was 5mins between swim waves so I got in and swam a few lengths to warm up before our wave set off
