Master 1831 Keller Tx | Subject: RE: Dallas Athletes St. Patricks Day Sprint tikicult - 2008-03-13 1:23 PM 27 minute wait from gun to when I go. Gonna be a nerve-wracking 27 minutes, haha. I just mapped the course online and it looks really flat. I am excited! I still suck at hills. The bike course is quite flat. There are 3 bumps along the way. When you turn onto Davis off of Keller Pkwy, you'll have a gentle rise for a little, but a nice payiff on the other side. when you turn onto Bear Creek Parkway, you'll find 2 hills that are steeper, but short. The first of the hills is a little longer with no run up to it, but its still an easy hill....its not Chipseal! The 2nd hill should be an easy big ring spin to the top. Member 48 | Subject: RE: Dallas Athletes St. Patricks Day Sprint I'm 635 and this is my third tri. I won't be at the dinner tonight since it's a bit of a drive from Valley View but will hopefully meet some of you tomorrow at some point. Especially if your middle to back of the pack hehe. Anyways, I wanted to know how the swim works. With the lanes so wide do they start several people at once or just one at a time every 5 secs. My first tri I was 5th from the back of the line and we went one at a time. Seemed to take forever. Just wanted to know how long I'll be standing around. Good luck to all tomorrow but most of all have FUN!! |

Extreme Veteran 455 Plano,TX | Subject: RE: Dallas Athletes St. Patricks Day Sprint I know it would be a bit more dangerous and crowded, but on a smaller race of say 250-300 instead of close to 500, I think it would be a hell of a lot of fun to start the swim slowest to fastest. Let the fast people play the game of "how many can I catch" and the slow people play "how many can I stay away from". It's sort of like some of the races where the women get a differential and the race is truly co-ed. Sounds like fun and maybe a way to really get to race side by side with some fast people. In this race, the fast guys will be getting off their bike at the same time some of us MOP/BOP folks are just starting ours. Edited by tajsss 2008-03-14 2:50 PM |

Expert 750 Plano, TX | Subject: RE: Dallas Athletes St. Patricks Day Sprint It's a long drive tonight for me, too... well, 30 miles each way...but a chance to get together with the BT peeps was too good to pass up. In answer to your question, there are about 12 racers going out per minute and you are about #300 into the #490 racer field. That puts you right around 30 minutes or so from the start of the race. Honestly, that will give you some good time to calm your nerves, watch good swimmers and see how smooth and fast they go, and see others flogging the water and going out too fast and having to stop and hang onto the wall, etc. You can also get a good idea on how you want to exit. Sometimes there is a very slow person coming to the ladder in front of you that wants to collect their breath while standing in front of the exit ladder. If you watch, there may be people exiting at the lap lane end, rather than waiting for someone to catch their breath at the ladder. You can also watch and see what the best entry will be for you...some people enter by sitting down and sliding in and pushing off, some jump in and lose their goggles, some do the lifeguard entry (scissor legs with arms out). There are a lot of things you can glean from having to stand in line for 30 minutes waiting to start. Use that time wisely and don't let the nerves take over. You got this. See you there! Chris

Expert 619 Wylie, TX | Subject: RE: Dallas Athletes St. Patricks Day Sprint So I kept on looking toward the stairs, but I didn't see anyone there. I saw Aaron, but he was too busy talking to people that he already knew, so I didn't wanna bug him to say hi. I had an awesome race! 1:22 total time. 6 minute swim, 45 minute ride, and 30 min run. At my sprint last year, I did a 1:34! I can't believe how much I have improved since then. I felt so good throughout the race. Too bad that wind moved in I was freezing on the bike. There was a guy trying to beat me at the last 50 yards or so, and there was no way I was going to let that happen. I out sprinted him to the finish!! The crowd was going crazy over it. I had tons of fun!! Edited by tikicult 2008-03-15 12:47 PM |
