Subject: long run in IM training
I'm looking at various training plans and have one thats been customized for me by a multi IM friend. He knows my limiter is the bike and my somewhat fast changing work schedule and worked those things in a 24 week plan.

My question is about the long run. He is confident that 2:30 for my longest run is enough. Having done many marathons, I'm having trouble believing my run will be solid (not fast, just steady) on such a short long run (3:10 is my typical long run for marathons).

How long are your long runs? Convince me this is okay.

For info, I've got a three six+ hour rides, and couple of 5s.

Go to the Ironman section and look up the thread 5 hour Ironman run (It's something like that)  it should be near the top as we were just adding to it early in the week.  All the assurances that a 2.5 hour long run is enough are in that thread

as you understand marathons, you'll be just fine.  i was in the same position -- plenty of marathons and no IM.  did my first IM with nothing > than an 18 miler over 4 months. 

 the marathon at the end of the IM is a totally different mind game than a simple marathon.  I think JeepFleeb treats the marathon as 26 seperate races, i treat it as 2 half-marathons to keep me going.  anyhow. 

you'll be fine if your goal is to finish with dignity.
