I live in Michigan and temperatures are current 1 degrees with gusty winds. Needless to say, I did not go for my long run. I wanted to get at least 10-12 miles in. I thought I might be able to do it on my treadmill. I put a movie in the DVD player and started my run. I was only able to get 1 hour in.

How long have you lasted on the treadmill?

Brian

26+ miles, at 3 am.  A sleep deprivation run to get ready for a 100 miler.

The very next day my treadmill broke.  I guess it had enough.

1-hour has always been about all I can take as well.  If I feel I need more than that I'll go from 60-90 minutes on a stationary bike, then to the treadmill.  Not the running miles I might have wanted, but sometimes you just gotta do what ya gotta do.

I did 16 a couple of months ago and will never do that much again. Something about running on the treadmill gave me serious shin splints in my leg. It was bad enough to impact the rest of my training for a couple of weeks.

OMG, you guys are amazing!  I can't stand anything longer than about 30 minutes on one of those.

Although I remember hearing about the woman from Alaska who ran the marathon for the US in the olympics a couple of years back.  She did all her training on a treadmill, while watching movies and concert films.

About an hour here as well. On the few occassions where I wanted to do more I just added an hour or so on a stationary bike 1st to break up the boredom.

I've done 1h30 a couple times.  Was ok because the volleyball team was practicing in the gym right in front of them.

14 miles so far.  Lungs will explode in the arctic cold, so it's either tready or hospital.  I just make sure I have a good view while at the gym to take my mind off the boredom, plus all the little buttons on the treadmill are fun to play with!

Three hours, nineteen miles total, decribed here in my logs. Got an ovation from the gym staff when I finished.

I once did 12.3 miles on a treadmill in winter--it was when I was deciding whether or not I could do a marathon, so I just ran to see how far I could go. I'd only ever run about 4 miles before that (yes, this was dumb, but I was new to the training thing). At 12 miles, I realized I seriously needed to stop, and then it took me .3 to finally declare defeat.

Hate. The. Treadmill.

10 miles one week before a half mary.  I am at a total loss as to why I did that, too.  I haven't done it since.

Like trixie said, join us out at kensington.  The weather should be a LOT nicer next weekend, than it was yesterday or today.

Keep an eye on the Michigan forum.  There are usually weekly posts for group stuff on the weekends.

Thanks trixie & matt3liv,

Just a little intimidated with you guys. I am a slow 10:00 min/mile guy. I will try to make it out next week-end. Where/when do you guys meet? I need to get at least 10 in next week since I missed this week-end.

Don't be intimidated at all.  I'm training for some long stuff and I'm having trouble keeping at 10:00 pace.  I think we averaged 11.5 pace this weekend.

Trixie is good about waiting for me ....

I'm planning to be out there next weekend around 1pm or so, and spending several hours out there.  I'd love to have some company for any portion of it.

I have done around 1.5 hours on it before.

Wasn't that bad. It's all about your mind set and motivation.

wgraves7582 - 2008-02-11 2:51 PM  How do you guys manipulate the time on the treadmill or do you just restart every 30 minutes. I can do a 5k and if I run slower than 10 min/miles it will let me go longer but not much more. Does the staff get mad at your gym?

No time limit on the treadies at my gym. Very seldom are all of them in service.

Staff was encouraging me, refilling my water bottles, and clapped when I finished.

If you've got time on Friday, I've got to do 40 min of running. Lots of room to run out there on the Old Pueblo course.
