Subject: Lockerroom experience - What's etiquette?
I finish my swim and I'm showered up and getting dressed. Pool was busy with a variety of swimmers and casual walkers, etc. A guy comes into my aisle and has obviously just gotten done doing some sort of workout - he's a sweaty mess. No biggie. Typical day at the gym.

I opt to go spin my suit in the suit dryer and I notice there's 4 of us in line. A couple of the kids that were in the pool are drying their suits, but the guy right in front of me looks familiar. As the line gets down to just me and the other guy, I notice he tosses a tee shirt into the dryer....and I'm like nooooo! He finishes spinning his shirt, pulls it out then heads to the hair dryer and is putting the finishing touches on his sweaty shirt.

I shook my head, walked away and dried my suit at home.

Gross!  My first instinct would be to call in Kelly (Lumpy) to give him hell.  What's up with people???  And what the hell gym do you go to?

That is just nasty.  I would probably have had to say something... like "did you know this is for drying swimsuits?  Not spinning the sweat out of your disgusting t-shirt?"

 Ooh, and you just know that he probably wears that shirt multiple days... just leaves it in his locker/gym bag and pulls it on again the next day.  {shudder}

Pretty frickin disgusting.  I'm trying not to lose my temper with people who truly deserve it.  Not sure what I would have done.  Maybe the passive aggressive route would have worked. "Hey thanks dude, now I know I need to wash my suit when I get home instead of just letting it air dry."

That is bad. I will wash out my shirt & cycle shorts in the shower with lots of soap, and then give them a spin. I lost a couple shirts that I liked to bad odor for just throwing them in the gym bag, and not washing them out until I got home. If he went into the shower, and washed out his shirt with soap and water I wouldn't have a problem with it. If he came in from the excercise area, and gave it a spin, I would have other comments for him.

1. That was, no doubt, yucky, but in a public place, anything is possible. Ten minutes later, you wouldn't have known any better.
2. You have no problem with someone's swimsuit (which was covering what?), but can't take a sweaty t-shirt.
3. Imagine what else goes on in those places. How many dry off on the shower curtain? What were those two really doing in the sauna? What kind of fungus does that guy have between his toes? How many kids have peed in the pool? We have all seen Caddyshack.
4. Ignorance is bliss! I hope no one cancels a club membership due to the above possibilities.

I always wash my suit after swimming, whether I have dried or not.

Figured I'd bring you back to earth. I could get more disgusting. Remember some of your Junior High antics?

Talk to someone that works at a club sometime. The stories are hilarious.

They have medicine for that, but you usually need to take it for more than a couple of months. The ointments and creams are pretty ineffective.

Showering with soap is required before entering the pool, but not before sitting one's naked butt on the bench in the locker room.

People are disgusting and lacking in manners. If we expect them to change we will be completely disappointed. Our best bet is to recognize that we are the only pure people and protect ourselves against the great unwashed masses.

Never in the pool! Does the shower count?

Maybe my pool uses a lot of chlorine but I have to soak and wash my suit after every swim and it still smells like chlorine. Then again I smell like it too, no matter how much I scrub. I might as well hijack this thread a little more. How do I get the chlorine smell out of me beard?

BTW I have an in-ground pool at my house and swim in it all summer and don't have a problem getting the chlorine smell out when I swim at home.

Shave it

It's the only hair that I can grow in my head. If I shave it I'll truely be bald. I'm too young to be bald...

So much for the hijack. It's time to get this thread back into the gutter...

You don't really sniff your suit do you?

I don't need to sniff it, I can smell the chlorine from 10 feet away.

I work for a hotel company, there is no way the stories of what happens at a gym could be worse than what I hear about.  And I do still stay at hotels, I just look around a little more when I get there

As for the drying of the shirt, yes it's nasty but I did have to chuckle at it.
