My favorite swim workout involves drying off and getting on my bike.

Cool

x2

I mean really, "Favourite swim workout" is one of the biggest oxymorons I can think of. And why I replace the swim with another run.

go to USMS.org and click on "training"...endless supply of options.  You can also google 2500 meter swim workouts and find some that way.

Not sure if you are bored, but I think the key to preventing boredom if you swim alone is to have variety and purpose.  Don't just swim.  Have a warm up, a main set, and a short cool down.  In the main set, include drills and vary the sets depending where you are in the season.

I love swimming, but I find I am much more motivated to swim and swim hard if I swim with others, like in a master's group.

What about workouts for us mere mortals who don't swim 3000 - 7000 yards per workout.  Seems like the only people posting are swimmer who do triathlons.

Any suggestions for 2000-2500 yard workouts?  Obviously pyramids can be tailored easily to fit any distance.

I think it was Tom (madcow) who gave me this one:

1x400
2x300
3x200
4x100

With wu and cd it'll fit the bill.  Do all of the main set at T pace.

Here's a nice set we did a few weeks ago:

Warmup
5x100 wu as
1 - front
2 - kick
3 - back
4 - 6 kick 1 pull
5 - pull

Mini set
6x25 as
odds build
evens 1/2 easy, 1/2 hard

Main set
10x50 pull
4x125 swim
250 pull

Cool down
100 back
100 kick
100 choice

Mimir98 - 2008-02-12 3:57 PM Swim 50 meters, get out, do 10 pushups.  Repeat 9 more times. Go as fast as you can.  Do not let your face smash into the pool deck.
You can also do pullups in the middle of the 50. Swim down. Do 10 pullups. As in pull yourself up to get out of the water but don't get out. Then sprint back. Fun!

Having a hard time imagining that in a 50 meter pool

500 to 1000 warm up EASY - I mix it up. I swim it straight or rest 5 seconds between each 100. I focus carefully on stroke technique
2 minute rest
1 to 2 500s. 1 minte rest between each one if you do 2.
3 minute rest
4 to 5 200s. 1 minute rest between each one.
4 minutes rest
5 to 10 100s 30 seconds rest between each one. If I do 10 I add another 60 seconds rest between the 2 sets of 5
1 to 2 minutes rest.
2 to 4 100 kicking. 15 to 30 seconds rest between each one. Fast enough to keep me moving forward. I leave it at the end because I hate to do them and sometimes I run out of time. (he he)
200 to 500 warm down EASY. Focus on technique

Total 2700 to 4900 yards depending on what I choose.

All distances and times are for a 25 yard pool.

In the alternative I love to swim 100 laps (2500) or 200 laps (5000) straight out as hard as I can However, the first 200 to 500 I hold myself back and focus on stroke technique. I am lucky because I do not get board swimming, so long as I stay focused on my swimming and not let my mind wander.

Oooohhhh! Ms. fancy schmancy pool. Get to swim in a long course pool? South Florida? Let me guess, outdoor swimming year round? I hate you!

Well, since you asked, let's see if I can post a picture
