Subject: My wife signed up for her first tri!

My wife was a swimmer in high school, but has no experience in running or biking.  I've been doing this for giong on 4 years, and I've always wanted her to be involved, but never pushed her to do anything.  Attraction, rather than promotion, I guess.  She's swam a relay in a couple tris, including Wildflower long, but finally decided to take one on and signed up for the Wildflower mountain bike tri (i am doing this one as well post IMAZ).

I'm excited, yet hestitant......   triathlons are expensive enough for ONE person in the family.  Bt very proud of her.  I know the feeling she had pushing the "submit" button, it's fun to watch someone else going through it

Triathlons are expensive, but so are vacations, etc, now you can combine them. Most of us are very close to our training buddies and fellow triathletes, it would be great to have a spouse directly involved. Have her start reading threads on BT

I can speak from experience, having a spouse to train with, and who understands what you are going through makes all the difference in the world!

Congratulations to both of you.    You get a training buddy, and she's got an experience triathlete in the house.  Quite a team!

That's awesome! It's amazing how much training takes away from spending time with our husbands/wives. I hope this lets you guys spend some quality time together. Now, get her on BT!!

My GF is a cyclist (both road and mt. bike), so we get time togther on the bikes. That'll have to do for now.

Kudos to your wife for "pulling the trigger".

 Congrats!

Sounds like you handled the desire to have her join you with patience to let her make up her own mind well.

Twice the expense but more than double the fun

Congratulations! I know she'll love that new Specialized Transition! And hey, you'll still be competitive on your kid's bike, just don't forget to take the training wheels off!

Good times!

Coming from a two-triathlete household, it does get a little pricey...and setting priorities on who gets to buy what new gear when has been an exercise in domestic negotiation. But Sunday was my first tri that my wife didn't compete in (just jockstrapped, due to injury rehab) and it felt weird. Kinda fun when we're both racked together...

That's great! My wife is a runner and she'll come to the pool with me. Having someone training with you - even if it is just going out the door at the same time before someone speeds off - is a great motivator. Congratulations to her.

My wife started to train for a tri when she was almost hit by a car.  She is now a runner only but we train together often.  We have been combining races and vacations as was mentioned earlier and we really enjoy the time together.  She really looks great (good for me!) and has been empowered by finishing her races.  You will enjoy tri's more now with her in them.  Our only issue is the kids' schedules and our long days!!!  Congrats to you and her.  Chet

Congrats to you and the Mrs.  I think the financial aspect will more than be offset by how good she feels, how good you feel, how she'll finally understand why you need to take a 5hr ride instead of 2, etc.  Besides, I bet you're logging of Body Surfing time goes up too!   I only wish my wife would even take a mild interest in tri's.
