Sunny
Total Time = 3h 48m 15s
Overall Rank = 1071/5134
Age Group = M 40-44
Age Group Rank = 153/476
Pre-race routine:

Ate a cup of oatmeal and had a cup of coffee. Got the whole family in the car at 5:45am. Only took 15minutes to get down to the race, got dropped off. She went to find parking.
Event warmup:

Spent the majority of the time standing in restroom line. Had about 5minutes to try to get up to the 3:50 pace group.
Run
  • 3h 48m 15s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 08m 43s  min/mile
Comments:

For my 1st road Mary, this was an excellent run for me. Not as fast as i was hoping for, but right on plan. :)

Split times:
M1 and M2- 17:26min, 8:42pace
M3- 9:18min
M4- 7:55min
M5 and M6- 16:32min, 8:15pace
M7- 8:35min
M8 and M9- 17:03min, 8:32pace
M10- 8:40min
M11- 8:47min
M12- 9:06min
M13- 8:51min
M14- 8:51min
m15- 9:20min
M16- 8:33min
M17- 8:33min
M18- 10:00min
M19- 8:56min
M20- 8:42min
M21- 8:50min
M22- 9:33min
M23- 9:09min
M24- 8:45min
M25- 8:51min
M26.2- 11:06min, 9:15pace

This was my calculated ATT plan below:

10.0 minute warm-up at a 9.0 min/mile pace.
6.0 min run intervals with a 1.0 min. recovery interval.
Number of Intervals: 33
8.17 is/was my planned running pace.
8.7 minutes/mile was my real average pace.
7.29 minutes cushion for my goal time of 3.9hrs.
Total run time in mins: 228.25, or 3.8 hrs.

28.25 minutes too slow to qualify for Boston(need <3.33hrs).
Need to cut a little over a minute per mile still, probably need to run right at a 7min pace(still planning walking breaks).

Actual ATT results:
30 walk intervals @ 1min each. 30 x .07 walk distance is 2.1miles in 30minutes.
3:48:15 less 30minutes is 3:18:15 run time @ 24.1miles, so avg run pace was 8:14min/mile.
So, I didn't follow plan to the letter, but still managed to stay really really close to it.

AT&T Marathon standings:
OA- 1071 out of 5134, 21%
Men- 883 out of 3093, 29%
AG- 153 out of 476, 32%
What would you do differently?:

Need more 20mile long runs.
Post race
Warm down:

Stumbled around in a daze mostly. Didn't think i'd made my 3:50goal. Laid down to stretch my back. Tried to stretch out a little. Walked to meet family at City Hall, too long of a walk. I had more trouble walking than running the mary.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Need more 20mile long runs, and hill training. Felt weak on the hills. Just reasons. I really think i was right on target with my training and my pacing for this race.

Event comments:

A good race for me.

Awesome job!!!!  As we drove through Austin to run a quick errand on our way home, we saw a bunch of runners cross Lamar and it dawned on my that you were running today!  I'm sure it got a little warm toward the end, but otherwise, it seems like you had some great weather.  I'm glad you had such a positive 1st road marathon experience!  Excellent job pacing!
