Run the Reagan

Sunny
Total Time = 1h 33m 57s
Overall Rank = 54/448
Age Group = m35-39
Age Group Rank = 8/47
Pre-race routine:

Drove to Race. No pre race eating. Decided to try something a little different at this distance. Goal was to rely on the food and hydration from the previous day to be my main fuel source, then add a Gu as a supplemental fuel source. I did drop a pre-race Gu. about 10 minutes prior to the start.
Event warmup:

About a 3/4 mile run around some local streets. I wanted to be sure the legs were ready to race.
Run
  • 1h 33m 57s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 10s  min/mile
Comments:

Was unsure how this race would turn out. My run volume has been up, and this was pretty much just a 'training' run for the ING full in a month and a half. Still, I knew I wanted to actually race it, to see where I am at in terms of strength and speed. The day was beautiful. Start temp was 55 degrees. I was in shorts and a t-shirt.

Race started, and I took the first four miles at a 6:30 / 45 pace. Felt really good, but knew I would slow down. I wanted to creep up to a 7, and hold it there. I pretty much did that after 4, but got to a few large hills on the way back in, and they took some of the wind out of my sails. My slowest mile was a 7:43, and that was around mile 10 / 11, where the larger hills are.

All in all, I did well. I PR'd, which was unexpected. I'm a couple lbs heavier than I was last year.. but I have had some strong ongoing training in prep for a later in the year BQ attempt.

last year, same course, 1:35:26. This year, 1:33:57.

So, I had a good run. Not great, not an age group award or anything, but something I can be proud of.
What would you do differently?:

Lose 10 lbs.
Post race
Warm down:

Waited on about 10 others to finish. Was great to be there to cheer them all in.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

10 lbs.

Event comments:

Great race. Only gets a 4 due to the fact that they still don't chip time. Is this not 2008? Are we not supposed to be flying around in cars now? Ok, so no flying cars, but chip timeing ar races? That should be in place at every single event.

Other than that, this is much more than your average race. It's a festival. 4 separate runs, and a great play after race setup.

Congrats on the PR! That is awesome. Just think after you lose those 10 lbs how much faster you will be without having to try. Nice work Teed.

Wow. Dude you continue to amaze me on your speed. (Knock off the Blizzards and you are way fast.) I'm happy for your PR. It's a great, great time you cranked out with some impressive splits. Awesome.

...w/o the chip timing you probably ran a 1:33:58...
