Subject: Been a while
So I completed my first tri in July '08 (Montauk Sprint Tri). It was such an awesome experience committing to working out and really going for it. I spent May-mid Aug racing almost every weekend (5ks, 4mi, or duathlons...only did that one tri last year). I was really proud of myself! Something happened after the race though, and it may have been that my brother crashed really bad during the race, but I lost my motivation. New job, planning my wedding, etc. and here I am needing that motivation back. Just got on the bike for the first time in a while last night and I need to commit again. Any words of advice/motivation would be greatly appreciated.

Best Wishes for a successful & healthy 2008.

Hopefully when the Spring warmer weather moves in your spirits will rise too. Nicer weather is always a motivator.

I was Gung Ho from about January 2007-July 2007, then I just completely lost my mojo.  I trained sporadically and completed my 2007 season (MY first).  I definitely considered the season a success, but I was pissed for losing my mojo.  I barely trained from Oct-Jan 2008 as we had a new baby and wifey had a rough final trimester.  I started back slowly, was/is discouraged but I keep plugging along and eventually will get it back.  Words of encouragement?  Start back slowly, log your workouts and fit it into your schedule.  It's easy for training to take a back seat to life, and I hope I can get to the point where many here are at, that training becomes an integral part of their day.  I don't think I helped you any, other than to say, I've been there, it sucks giving up all that base/endurance, we'll be here when you come back.  Oh yeah, I see you registered for mini_mighty.  Race fees are a great motivator.  Good luck.

Post race lets downs are normal. Add that to all of the other life events you had going on and I'd say its natural.

You already took the first step - getting back on the bike. Good for you. allow yourself to ease into it. I too, see you've registered for an early season tri. Great! Having something specific to train for is the best motivator. You're well on your way, welcome back!

Have fun, that's what it's about.
