Subject: Politics and CoJ... I'm impressed

Both the Michelle Obama nonstory and the John McCain/NYT innuendo piece passed without partisan comment here.

What, this place is suddenly the UN??

heh. And now ya gotta go and bring it up. I for one, am bored.  Seems to be a forgone conclusion that it will be McCain/Obama. So I am taking a short break from paying attention and caring and getting my knickers in a twist.  For now.

AcesFull - 2008-02-22 1:05 PM Hopefully this is a sign that people are getting smarter. Nah, just CoJ people. Right now there are several non-stories out there. Obama plagiarizing? McCain's lobbyist? Rubbish. Frankly, even if McCain was having an affair, as the innuendo is seeming to suggest, this is a non-issue. I could care less where the president puts his penis, so long as he is doing a good job running th country. And just to dispel any notion that this is a partisan-based response, I am a liberal democrat who WILL NOT be voting for McCain.

Yeah!   Yeah... and... and another thing...  YEAH!

no, but one of them (rick renzi, R-AZ) was indicted for extortion, wire fraud, money laundering and other charges related to a land deal in Arizona. and he happens to be one of straight-talkin mccain's campaign co-chairs. what a maverick!

my question would be why does that matter, as chairman of a presidential campaign he is doing bad stuff to get a guy elected........    as an elected rep for a group of people he is doing bad stuff as a rep for those people......

You know the old adage "birds of a feather?" McCain presents himself as Mr Clean so when a campaign chairman is thrown in the clink, one wonders about Mr Clean's judgment and/or cleanliness. Doesn't make Mr Clean dirty - but it would be silly not to wonder what the dealio is there. I disagree with the way you summarily convict any elected official, but you're entitled to your cynicism - I just don't share it. Anyway, what do we have to go on, to base our vote upon if we are not willing to vote based upon a D or R next to the name? Behavior, words and associations. So, these stories matter because they give us a glimpse into the inner workings of people who spend millions of dollars to present a pleasing public facade.

The problem with your Berger reference (once again) is that you are comparing a McCain bishop (campaign chair) to a Clinton pawn (adviser), so to speak.

BTW, the Founders never intended for us to have a democracy. Mob rule and all that.

Pennsylvania's primary isn't until April.

At this point, I'm pretty convinced that (a) Clinton would be a better president, and (b) I'll vote for Obama.

Why?  Because I think he has a better chance of beating McCain.  Sadly, I think Hillary would be a boon to Republican turnout.  Some people who otherwise might not bother to vote at all would CRAWL to the polls just to vote against her.  I hate that it's true, but as long as I think it is... I'll take the good-looking young guy and pray every day that he surrounds himself with smart people.

renee, renee, renee    i love you but......  and pleeeeease dont think i am defending one over the other but in this case, i hope at least that mccain did not know this guy was a crook when he put him in that position, while on the other side Hillary knowingly put a crook on her staff......  you use the word pawn to describe Berger's role, i highly doubt that the former NSA to a President and in this case her husband is playing a minor role in the campaign......

but..........   i still love you and most of your post.

Jonah Goldberg's Liberal Fascism is a fascinating read. It's particularly interesting to watch the cult of Obamaism through Goldberg's lens.

Contrary to what most people think, the Nazis were ardent socialists (hence the term National socialism). They believed in free health care and guaranteed jobs. They confiscated inherited wealth and spent vast sums on public education. They purged the church from public policy, promoted a new form of pagan spirituality, and inserted the authority of the state into every nook and cranny of daily life. The Nazis declared war on smoking, supported abortion, euthanasia, and gun control. They loathed the free market, provided generous pensions for the elderly, and maintained a strict racial quota system in their universities—where campus speech codes were all the rage. The Nazis led the world in organic farming and alternative medicine. Hitler was a strict vegetarian, and Himmler was an animal rights activist.

Do these striking parallels mean that today’s liberals are genocidal maniacs, intent on conquering the world and imposing a new racial order? Not at all. Yet it is hard to deny that modern progressivism and classical fascism shared the same intellectual roots.

The quintessential Liberal Fascist isn't an SS storm trooper; it is a female grade school teacher with an education degree from Brown or Swarthmore.

yeah, it's not like you didn't know what you were doing

Selachophobia, it's called "context." renzi's indictment today fit the context. william jefferson's indictment june of last year didn't.

oh, and spokes, this is the 6th time you've expressed your jonesing for a bloomberg candidacy. there is nothing that gets the electorate less excited than the possibility of a bloomberg run for prez. if you think he'd have a legitimate shot, i'd like some of whatever it is you're smoking. you say you want someone who is qualified, so what exactly is bloomberg's qualification? being a billionaire? mayor of NYC? cuz, you know, that worked out so well for rudy.
