Sunny
Total Time = 1h 43m 3s
Overall Rank = 64/64
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 7/7
Pre-race routine:

Woke. Had a Cliff bar. Loaded truck with Debbie and David around 5:45am and headed to ne iberia.

Event warmup:

Ran half mile at 125 BPM.
Run
  • 29m 45s
  • 2 miles
  • 14m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Goal was to keep HR below 140 BPM. I succeeded at it. I was moving very slowly and could only wtch the group move on out well into the distance, but I knew my goal and it was not to blow it up on the first 2 mile run.

What would you do differently?:

Run posture. I tend to look at my feet a lot. I need to keep head up, shoulders back and just let me feet do their thing!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Had an issue clipping in for a second, but nothing too critical.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster in T1. i am sure it takes most people a minute or less to get in and out, me, not so fast. probablly more in the area of 2 nd a half minute, which when it is incorporated in your bike time, really makes a difference in your bike split, grrrrrrrrr.
Bike
  • 41m 32s
  • 12 miles
  • 17.34 mile/hr
Comments:

When I pulled out of T1 I asked how far behind the last rider I wa and the guy said about 11 minutes.

I passed 5 people by the time I returned to T2.

I felt quite strong. Good ride.
What would you do differently?:

I am not sure.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

I hve the new ZOOT tri shoe. They were very nice, but I had a rock on the my foot I didn't feel when i slipped my foot in the shoe, took a few steps and had to stop and take the shoe of clean bottom of my foot and find the rock now in my shoe. That screwed my transition time up fairly bad.
What would you do differently?:

Clean feet off before putting in shoe, even if I THINK nothing is on there.
Run
  • 31m 44s
  • 2 miles
  • 15m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

OK. Wanted to keep the HR at bout 160 BPM the first mile. I did. ot to 164 a couple times, but no biggie. last mile was to be a free for all.

I got to about the one mile mark and decided to keep it at 165 until the final turn back in and that is when I said HR doesn't matter to me right now. I pushed it hard the last 1/2 mile and felt ok at finish. HR got up to 187 BPM.
What would you do differently?:

Maaybe go just a bit harder overall?????????

BUT - I have to remind myself that last year when I weighed over 450 pounds I averged 18 and 19 minute miles on these races. 14 minute miles is a major boost.
Post race
Warm down:

Poured COLD water on my head, packed up, went to car, changed into dry clothes, went to awards ceremony. THEY STILL HAD FOOD. normally when I finally get to the food, it is pretty much gone.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

A little sore.

Event comments:

I will DU, it again!

Course: Loved this course! The first 2 mile course is different from the second. We raan through the gardens in front of the RVW house on the hill, VERY nice. Some decent hills that made my HR jump up, but nothing horrible.

Course: This course has wonderful qualities and a few blemishes . . . It is flat and a pancake, but makes up for that ith roughness and pothole obsticles. The first 3 miles are smooth, then the next 7 are a bit rough around the edges, and then the last 3 or 4 are smooth again. Nothing to do about that, it is the product of Louisiana Roads.

Course: This is the same course as the triathlon RVW. Flat, hot, a little rough because of the gravel, but still nice run. The kid volunteers for this race were spectacular! Poured cold water all over me. it became a contest for them. They actually chased me down to drench me even more.
