Agree that Tri bikes will be fine usually with tri types you tend to get more wierd looks from road groups but then if you stay out of aero you should be fine.  I have ridden in pacelines in aero  with tri bikes before although not smart.  Did it last year in the MS150 the last 10 miles with about 8-10 people.  We were all dying and it was really windy/hilly so we all just took turns leading.  I would not suggest doing it on sunday as there will be no traffice control and way too much potential to be stopping.  I would say as long as everyone leaves a safe distance (close to the legal draft zone) it would be okay.

Why...those elitist roadies!  That's it.  Anyone planning on bringing a road bike is strongly encouraged to stay home.  Unicycles, however, are welcome.
(not a serious post)

I hope the weather holds up.  Temp will be nice, we just need the hydro to stay away.
(serious post)

So are yall all veterans of the PlayTri? We are coming up this year and were wondering about the water temps that time of year? Sorry we will miss the ride but thanks for the info you posted on it!

It looks like we are going to have a good size group! I'll consolidate a list of who all will be there closer to Sunday. This way all of those "maybe"s will have time to change it to a definite "yes."

I mapped out a modified route of the Playtri course that we can ride. It's basically the course, but with just a few changes so that we won't be riding against traffic. And it leaves out one of the short stretches that is a u-turn towards the end of the loop.

You can view it here:
http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/training/map.asp?route...

I also typed up a cue sheet for the map, but can't seem to figure out how to put it on here since it's in a Word Doc. file. So, I can print up several of them and bring them with me OR I can cut and paste it into here if you want to take a look at it ahead of time.

Bet on needing a wetsuit. Last year... wetsuits were needed. The people who did not wear a wetsuit were sorry that they didn't.

One gal in my group jumped in the water... got out and walked off. Quit the race right then and there.

Another girl in my group swam it, but had to get pulled out of the water for being so cold. She DNF'ed. I found her shivering on the other side of the fence.

Yes, those are girls... but a friend of mine who is a guy... got cramps on the swim that affected his race because he was so cold in the water. Read Jcbolten's RR from last year.

This has me scared now. Playtri is supposed to be my first Oly ever and I can't afford a wet suit. Should I even bother signing up?

Check with Kiefer swimming in plano I think or richardson bike mart about a rental.  I remember someone told me the went to kieffer last year to buy a wetsuit and they said wear it and if you want to return it after the race you could and only pay a $40 fee (or there about's).  I definately would not go in w/o a wetsuit unless you are hard core.

Sign up. Rent one. I rented one from Tri Sports. And the cost of the rental went towards buying something on their website. It was only like $25 or something like that.

uh oh, if you're an ambiguous "definitely maybe." i might have to be a "what he said" so you can see that i actually do exist. between you and jeepfleeb, i'm starting to doubt my own existance.

starting a new plan on sunday and a bike ride is in the works, so may just have to join this crew...non committal though at this point, but i'm thinking about it sue. i'll let you know.

Well... if either one of you decide to show... I will enjoy seeing you. But I won't expect to see either of you.

I might try to convince some guys from the North Texas Tri group to join this ride if it is not raining.

Well, we can expect a very windy ride tomorrow. But, it will be good training for Playtri because it was that windy last year ON race day. It looks like the rain won't happen until later in the day.

Okay, time to take a head count of who will be riding tomorrow so that we can be expecting to see you. Those with the (?) are the maybes, so what say you? Also, let us all know if you "yes"s have changed your minds. Here's who to expect:

SportySue (Sue)
rgill (Raegan)
bkarhu (Brian)
karhooligan (Chris)
KSH (Karen)
(?) kproudfoot (Ken)
(?) texmom (Jill)
(?) Gaarryy (Gary)
jcagg90 (John)- Sorry, John. You're not a "maybe"
tikicult (Dave)
(?) camy (Chris)
(?) jah2212 (Jen)
(?) textriguy (Daryl)

If I missed anyone let us know. It should be a fun ride tomorrow (at least the part with the tailwind will be!)
