Subject: 5K Training Plan opinion

Hi all,

I'm looking for a simple short term 5k (stand alone) training plan. I found this one this one on Runners World:

http://www.runnersworld.com/...06-4-2X5X9-4,00.html

Do you know any better 5k plan?

FYI: I've been doing lot's of long runs and I almost lost my speed. My 5K PR is 22:07 (a year ago) now my 5k time is 23:30 (Duathlon first 5k).

I want to focus mainly on speed work for the next 2-3 months. We have almost every 2 weeks a 5k race, most of them organized by local running teams.

I know that my time isn't the faster around here, because the run is my worst leg.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks!

seems like a fine enough plan, but I'm no expert. Are you are use to running 28+ mpw. Your logs are a "little" lacking.

I would also question comparing an open 5k PR to the first 5k of a du as evidence of lost speed.

Try Running Times.  They might have something you can use as well.

Other than that, looks pretty good as it stands.

You might want to consider adding an extra day of running.  But that would depend on your ability to handle the mileage with the high intensity stuff in there.

Two days of track work separated by only a day may not be the ideal in my opinion, especially since those SI intervals are above race pace speeds.  My thought would be to switch the TH and FR runs around.

Also, what is your base?  To introduce track work right into the legs without knowing the sort of running background you have makes it hard to give accurate advice.

Oh, and Hal Higdon has some 5k plans as well - www.halhigdon.com

Thanks for your replys.

In full training I ran over 30 miles per week, most of them long runs.

I don't log my training in this website.  I log it on paper yes old school.

I liked the Hal Higdon training also.

Thanks!
