I'm in for the Oly. Will be my lead in to Tupper Lake Half.

Wish the weather would warm up so I can get more cycling in.

And thus starts my 12 week countdown.

Week 12: 25 degrees F., 4-5 feet of snow on the ground.

We are not quite ready to swim yet...

Lots of rain today so maybe some of this snow will start to disappear.

I'm psyched for this race, but man is that lake gonna be cold! Maybe it'll make me swim fasterLaughing

honestly, you never know with the water temp....
Things change quickly. I remember 3 years ago, the water was 52 7 days out from the race. We had just a miserable spring and it was extremely cold and wet.

Then, we had a week of 90 degree weather, and the water warmed up 10 degrees in a week!
As soon as it starts warming up, the lake warms up fast.

It's also a week later than last year, so the extra 5 or so days really can help...
Don't get too freaked out about water temp just yet

10 weeks to go: 25 degrees F. today, > 1.5 feet of snow (at least in Manchester).

Week 11: 33 degrees F., >2 feet of snow.

Week 12: 25 degrees F., 4-5 feet of snow on the ground.

Enjoy it! Don't worry about time or what others are doing or anything. Take it all in. Keep reading these forums and get ideas of things, but dont' over-complicate anything.

Good luck!

We've now had four-in-a-row 75 degree or higher days, which I'm sure is warming up Newfound (slowly but surely).  Just hope that the sun keeps shining by mid-May when we start to do our swims!!

Just as an update- the ice was gone from the lake on Wednesday.  To compare the ice was off the lake on the 20th last year so there is only a 3 day difference in that particular stat and the Tri is a week later than it was last year.  So everything is 4 days better off.  As Keith said... hakuna matta (I'm paraphrasing of course).

water is 51 at Newfound right now. About the same as last year at this point. But, the race is a week later than last year, so we should hopefully see 63-65F on race day, if mother nature treats us kindly for the next 3 weeks
