I've been in the water twice.  It's cold but bearable.  I was in at 44 which was brutal and now 51 which was not horrible.  So 60 should be excellent.

I had a nice swim in Newfound tonight and found the water to be pretty nice.  I was in for 20 minutes and my hands and face felt ok.  This is a dramatic change from a week or so ago.  The water will be even nicer come race day.  Woooohoooooooooooo!

Planning ahead...would anyone like to meet at packet pickup next Friday and go for a swim?  I'll be getting up there around 4:15/30.

I'll be heading up on Friday. Sounds like a good idea. Will check in later in the week when my plans get more solid.

Lake temp this afternoon: 62 degrees..really not that bad.  Plus, it rained a bunch yesterday.  With a warm week, it'll bump up even more.  Fingers crossed!

p.s. the park is all nice and cleaned up for us - thanks, Keith!

p.p.s. I'm not going to lie...the mosquitos are FIERCE!  Bring your Deep Woods Off.

This Week's Forecast:

Lo- to mid- seventies temps all week, 80+ on Friday.

Saturday: Low (<30%) chance of showers. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82.  Overcast and warm...just the way I like it.

Glad to hear the water is warming up. I'm excited and nervous all at the same time. I'm heading up Friday as well.

water will be 65 or better, I'd guess. It's up to 63 today. Doesn't take much to warm it up.

We'll have a MooseHELP booth, with extra bugspray, and are setting up citronella tiki torches as well

NOAA.gov readjusted the weather predictions...same chance of rain (very little), but temps are going to creep upwards of 87+!!  Start hydrating!

csimpkins - 2008-06-02 5:40 PM Is BeginnerTriathlete going to have a booth there again this year?

I don't think so.

However, if anyone is up for pre-race dinner, I'd like to meet up.  Not many restaurant choices though - Cu Na Mara, the Irish restaurant (not sure how "Irish" it is) tend to be packed Friday/Sat nights of Mooseman.  If no one is up for dinner on Friday night, I will bring my own food and eat at my rental unit (full kitchen available).

I have dinner plans with my house host (a local).  Homestead is a great alternate to CuNaMara (a bit pricier, but very tasty).

There are a few other good places for dinner in the local area

The Common Man in Plymouth

The Bridgewater Inn right on Mayhew Turnpike

The Inn on Newfound lake (up the street from the Bridgewater Inn)

The Big Catch which is just up the street from the Cu Na Mara.

Weather report, for those coming from afar: it is downpouring now in Manchester (1 hour South of the race).  Transition might be a little...wet.  Be prepared!  Let's hope it dries out a little overnight!

NOAA.gov forecast for Bristol: Saturday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, partly cloudy, with a high near 90. Calm wind becoming west between 8 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 40%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

Safe travels today everyone.  If anyone else wants to join us for a swim tonight, we'll be on the beach 'round 4:30

Sorry we're not there this time, folks. You'll have to come to Galveston in October!

Have a great race!

My first Mooseman was a great time!

Does anyone out there know what the official shortened swim distance was?

Yeah, would be nice to know.

KEJ:  had anyone measured it when you had the kayaks lined up?

Stole from csimpkin's race report:

On the results page, it says .6 mile swim. Take it for what it's worth.

we didn't have time to measure it, but it looks to be about .6 of a mile, judging by the results.

Thanks Keith!  It was my first Mooseman and it was a great time.  Everything that was in your team's control appeared to go off without a hitch (if we could only the control fog-LOL).  Thanks for another great event and keep it up!
