Did you ever actually measure out a serving of Peanut Butter?  I love the stuff, but had NO idea I was probably slathering 2 serving (e.g. 380 calories) in a sandwich.  My stuff is 190 calories for 2 tbsps - when you actually measure it out instead of just slopping out of the jar.

Wow, in reality, one full serving (2 tbsp) don't go as far as one would think...

Any other foods like that?

Don't forget the 15g or so of fat. Nope, PB's not diet food! Nor can I understand those who use it as workout fuel.

I love my Naturally More Peanut Butter with flax. I was suprised at how much I was using compared to actual serving size. I am pretty good at "eyeballing" the serving size now.

Yes. And a lot of people slather it on their bagels/bread/whatever before a race. I was told the fat content of PB slows down how quickly your body breaks down and turns to energy all the other, more important stuff you're eating. For me, it's white bread with jelly before training/racing; no PB. Ironically enough, I did have PB & J before my ride today, because I had the sandwich yesterday to take as a snack when I was running errands, but I accidentally left it at home. It needed to be eaten .

Doesn't every triathlete exercise a ton?

I don't even pay attention to the calories. I just try to stick to healthy food which includes lotsa pb.

I am a peanut butter kick right now...my husband and I began recalling some of our favorite childhood snacks and 'ants on a log' was one of them. (celery, peanutbutter and raisins). Another was peantbutter and banana sandwiches!!

We've also been dipping our apples in peanut butter. Like everything else, as long as you keep in moderation, it can't be too bad...I hope.

I love PB, however I knew it was loaded with calories. Other stuff that is: alcohol, nachos, juice, mcdonalds.

It's a great source of protein for vegetarians. Especially the natural stuff w/out the added sugar and oils.

I have no problem eating 2-3 servings at a time.

That is why I rarely buy it and when I do, I try not to eat it frequently. I LOVE peanut butter and could seriously sit down and eat an entire jar.

lisac957 - 2008-03-03 11:04 AM ... I have no problem eating 2-3 servings at a time.

me too - that's my problem - I don't realize I'm eating 2-3 servings...

then again, calories counts go out the window when I do long runs (14+ miles), I have this uncontrollable craving for Turkey Hot Dogs w/ Peanut Butter as a post-run meal.
