Pre-race routine:

Up way early - 4:30 AM. I did not sleep well. Had an English muffin with honey and some coffee. Drove up to the race which took 25 mins.
Event warmup:

No real warm up. Stretched a little and stayed in the car to keep warm.

Comments:

I missed on my Garmin start which really messed me up on tracking my overall time. I was pacing nicely (8:30) for the first 6 miles. There was two hill between 4 and 6 that got my attention. At mile 8 I was officially tired and cranky then an angel appeared. A women no more than 5 feet tall came by me and said jump on I am hold 9 minutes miles you can do it. So, she paced me to mile 11. I struggled from this point to the finish with about a 10 min mile pace. I wish my Garmin was on track because I think I would have motivated to go under 2 hours.
What would you do differently?:

Not do a 50 mile ride the day before the race and use the 1/2 Mary to end my biggest work out week in six months. :-) In other words, nothing. It was a great training run and my first 1/2 Mary. It was a perfect morning.

I ran with my wind jacket the whole time. After thinking about it, I think I may have gotten dehydrated at the end. I cleaned out my bag and everything was extra wet. I may have over heated some at the end as it was getting warm and the sun was out.

Oh, I may run a few more hills which still give me fits. I think they strip away the illusion of endurance and give me a clear indication of my fitness. I am on track for my June HIM, just need to keep moving forward.
Post race
Warm down:

Sat for a minute at finish line, then walked to the bus to get back to start line. Changed and headed home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

endurance...this was my first double digit mileage run since my HIM in Oct. Dehydration may have been a factor. It was the end of a big week of work outs, so I was tired going into the run. No excuses, I am happy with the run.

Event comments:

I would do it again which is the best post race comment you can get.

Great job, this was a tough race...

I am like you, I hang on everything my Garmin says...if my Garmin has trouble it screws up my whole workout.

Good job, that's a great time on a brutal course.

Great race today!  How awesome that the lady wanted to help you pace!  Very cool!  I liked the course, but the hills were tough...I just told myself that we'd have a nice downhill after!  Way to go on your big week and  the race!  Keep it up and June will  have major rewards!

(BTW, my Garmin battery died at the start of my first Half in November...I was freaking out!! I almost wore an extra watch today!  But now I know that it could happen and it's not the end of the world.  So at least you got your faulty Garmin run over with for a while!!

Congrats on your first Half Mary. After all you have been through this winter, fighting illness and all the other stuff that comes with Winter training, you did great. Excellent result. A few more TNR's, and those hills on race courses will look like flats.

Also.. nice job on the back to back this weekend. That would be tough for anyone. This weekend should be a nice confidence builder. Keep up the great training.

Great run for your first half! Sorry that we didn't get a chance to meet prior to the race. There will be others. Keep up the good work.
