KEJ - 2008-03-06 2:59 PM wetsuits are definitely faster. Water will be about 72 or so...Could be upper 60's, though. We have wetsuit strippers, so you won't lose time getting it off. It takes about 5 seconds

Can anyone tell me more about these wetsuit strippers? Do you just randomly pick someone out and get on your back while they pull it off? And is this available for the sprint?

You pick the one you want to flash in case your shorts come down with the suit.

The wetsuit strippers are positioned maybe 50 yards from the water's edge, on the path to the transition area.

Once you exit the water, you take your wetsuit off your shoulders while running (not walking!) to the strippers.  When you get to the strippers, choose the strongest looking and most fearless high school kid (or any available stripper), face him/her, pull your suit down below your butt, sit down on your wetsuitless butt, raise your feet toward the strippers, and with one yank they pull your suit completely off your legs.  Then you stand up, get your suit handed back to you, thank the stripper, tip him/her if you have a buck on you , and then run (not walk!) to your bike.

It all takes just a second or so.  It's so much better than fighting to get the wetsuit off your legs yourself!

It was available on the sprint last year, and presumably this year also.

Brian

Yup, we'll have wetsuit strippers for all three races: Sprint, Half Iron and Quarter Iron....

One of the priceless moments of Lone Star week last year was having to train the wetsuit strippers. Cathy, one of our main crew, was the lucky guinea pig....

One of the local schools was in charge of the wetsuit stripping. So, Cathy had to go to the school during school hrs, and head to the cafeteria in her wetsuit, DURING LUNCH....that's where the group practiced, in front of the school

there were many "interesting" looks by faculty and students

I have fond memories of my wetsuit stripping experience from last year. I think the USAT ought to make having enthusiastic TX high school girls as wetsuit strippers mandatory in order to be a USAT-sanctioned event.

Last year, this was my first tri ever and was the best organized race I did the rest of the year. Keith does a great job orchestrating an all-out complete tri experience. It's not just well-organized, it's fun. I'm not quite as ready this year as I was last since I've almost completely taken off from training since finishing my first marathon in January, but I wouldn't miss doing this even again (even if I don't do as well as last year).

For the first-timers....try to get some OWS experience BEFORE the race, whether you do the clinic or go somewhere else. For me, I had to train myself to SLOW DOWN since it was so unfamiliar and my mind just wanted to GET OUT FAST. Since it's been a while for me, I'm going to head out to the Scuba Park (http://www.scubapark.net/) in the next 2 weeks to get some practice in myself. For you Houston-area folks, this is a place n SW Houston that you can pay $5 to swim their lake in a controlled environment complete with buoys and fish. If anyone is interested in joining me, let me know and we can coordinate a time.

Thanks! As I've mentioned in the past, it was also the first year. We have MUCH higher expectations for this year, and have a ton of new, great stuff for everyone.

The first year is all about making sure you can pull it off. We thought it was really GOOD. Really GOOD isn't GOOD enough for us. Our goal is GREAT...Of course, our expectations are extremely high...With the additions, it can be GREAT. Hopefully, we can pull it off

In the end, what makes our crew tick is all of the great feedback and comments we get from all of you. It's insane trying to put these things on, but the psychological energy we recieve from all of you is what makes it all worth it....

We're pretty excited. Heading to Galveston tomorrow for 4 days, to do some final things...Then, back in the office to finish odds and ends for the race. Then, 10 days out, we'll be back at Moody Gardens to begin to build the site......Lots o' fun!!!!!!!

Less than a week to go!

I feel fairly well prepared.  My training over the last few months has been good.  I got in one OWS already, though I was hoping for two before the race.  I've taken it easy this past week due to a cough, but should be good to go by Saturday!

Anyone else? Prepared, underprepared, confident, scared?

Brian

This will be my first OWS swim tri.  I'm a good swimmer - just not very fast.  I just moved to the Houston area from WI last week so the past month to 2 months have been spotty at best for training.  I'm excited though - a little nervous  but can't wait.  Hope to see all the TX BTers there!

I've been injured and sick for most of the last couple of months, so my training's been a mess. I had been hoping to finish in 1:15, but at this point, just finishing at all will be ok with me.

I am as prepared as I am going to get at this point.  I will swim some this week, a spin class in the morning and that will be it.  I am excited about the race and looking so forward to meeting/seeing all the BT folks!

See you Friday!  I will most likely be wearing one of my BT, I train with friends shirts!

I'm ready....at least I think I am. I know I'm in much better condition than I was last year and I hope to improve my sprint time. I was a bit concerned about the deep H20 start, but I'm going to participate in the beach patrol swim Friday afternoon.  It's a 4 hour drive for me..no way to make it to the clinic.

I've heard about the Saturday night BT table at the dinner but nothing on Friday night's dinner.  Any ideas? Who is going to the dinner Friday?

Happy travels!

Les

I'll be at the Friday night dinner! I'm looking forward to seeing and talkign to people from BT. I'm no where near as prepared as I was last year...I'm just hoping that my overall "improved" fitness level and "veteran" status can carry me through. With any luck...I'll be able to match my performance last year.

It is late notice, but maybe we can put a table of BTers together for Friday night.  I'll have 4 people with me...yes, I bring my entire entourage.  Anyone else?

I will be around the expo on Friday but not staying for the the dinner unfortunately.  I am always so nervous about the race in the morning, it's better to just get something light and head for the room to try to relax.  I will need to pack/repack my transition bag at least a dozen times to get the jitters worked out

Unfortunately I'm getting in way too late Friday night for the dinner.

Anyone else M45-49?  If so, I'll see you at the bike setup!

I'm racing in the clydesdale division.

I'll be there on Friday to pick up the packet and look around but won't be around Friday night for any dinner - heading back to Webster for the night and will drive down again in the morning.
