I'm a first timer and getting super nervous about transitions and speed Can't help that competitive edge in me! This is my first post to the boards but I think after this one I'll stick around! Training has been really fun!

Do a search. There's lots of good info on transitions out there, including one from just about a month ago.

Water has been low lately. The deep water is only 5 or 6 feet. You can always drift over close to the sore and touch. Navy M4549, #346. This is my third year doing tri's at Moody Gardens. I don't weat a wetsuit and swam today at lunch and you get used to the water temp really fast.

How long were you in the water?  I am still debating the wetsuit thing and would rather not wear one.  I swam in cold water twice before and did it without a wetsuit and was fine, though it did take a bit out of me.

What do you think the temp was and where did you swim?

I use the following site to check water temperature. http://www.weather.gov/view/validProds.php?prod=TID&node=KHGX It is updated twice a day, Once in early morning the other late afternoon. That is measured at Pleasure pier which I assume is the 25th street pier.

Yesterday it had 67 degrees. I was in the water about 15 minutes. I swam at Sweetwater Lake in Galveston, about 2 miles West of Moody Gardens. It was shallow so I imagine the water was a bit warmer. Three years the water temp was 63, I was new and in the water about 20 minutes. That still was not so bad, you get used to the temp and your body warms as you swim.

The swim start is actually off of the boat dock and not the rental boat platform so it is a deeper start than last year. The start line seems to be just 10 yards off the dock though. I am not looking forward to treading water long.

Click the following into your web browser for a current pic from the cam at Moody Gardens:

A shot in the dark here but to the lady who I passed up on the bike who had a purple cow on her handle bars...I said, "I like your cow," NOT "Move it, cow!"

I am hooked on this! The people were just top-notch...except for the guy who grabbed my leg in the water for no reason (unless you were drowning). I had so much fun and my 2nd tri cannot get here soon enough!

You were spoiled for your first race. There are lots of good races and RD's out there, but you'll notice little things that Keith does that raise the bar. For example: the timing chips already threaded on straps, the rack you can put your foot up on while a volunteer removes said strap, tall, stable bike racks, assigned transition spots (which most races don't do), the lettered rows for the racks so you can find yours, etc, etc.

This race was so much fun. I am ready for the next one. Looking for one in June or August. Any suggestions. This was my first tri and I was very impressed with the organization and support from volunteers, beginner tri and seasoned tri participants. Thanks for making my first event an awesome experience.
Special thanks to Tag who stopped and made a point to introduce himself.
