Just wanted to introduce myself! This will be my first tri season here in the seattle area. Im 25 and I am a personal trainer so i stay in pretty good shape but i have to admit that everything to come with tri training is a little overwhelming! I have a list of races im doing this year including:
st pattys day dash
kirkland half marathon
blue lake in oregon
lake padden in bellingham
seafair
i was lucky enough to get registered for danskin!
mercer island
finishing my season with the grand columbian olympic (should be interesting)

If anybody has any tips for any of these races feel free to tell me the horror stories and all! Otherwise i will be hanging around a bit and soaking up the chit chat!

Good luck. It's my first season as well, and I'm looking forward to finally jumping in after a few years running and a childhood swimming!

Hi Jessica!  I'm also doing Danskin this year. 2 years in a row. I was really happy to get in again.  I'm doing the St Paddy's Day dash as well.

Here's my anticipated schedule (it's REALLY ambitious, so I don't expect to be able to complete everything...but here's to TRIing!) - where I note I'm doing stuff with my fiancee, it's gonna be real slow, because he has not background in sports except for baseball!

St. Paddy's Dash (with fiancee) 3/16
Tom Wales Memorial 5k - 4/26
Niketown 5k - 5/10
Moses Lake Tri - 6/7
Scotiabank Vancouver Half Mary (with fiancee) 6-22
Seafair Half Mary 6-29
Firecracker 5000 - 7-3
Seafair Tri - 7-20
Seafair Torchlight Run - 7-26
Danskin - 8/16
Sammammish - 8/23 (maybe)
Subaru - 9/7
Black Diamond Tri - 9/14
Salmon Days 5k - 10/5
Dawg Dash - 10/12
Seattle Marathon - 11/30

Wish me luck!

i'm doing the St Paddy's day dash. Danskin - Moses Lake - Subaru and Black Diamond and MAYBE the 1/2 marathon in November

I loved the Subaru triathlon, even with the hill at the start and end. I hope it's as sunny this year as it was last.

I was supposed to do Subaru last year, but I had a death in the family. I'm excited for it this year.

It's such a great race. Little hilly on the bike at the start and end and the run is a little long for my liking but it was one of my fave's last year. The amount of freebies you get the day before the race at the expo. WOW!!!!   Amazing.

i just checked out the Subaru and it looks tempting .... might sign up tomorrow...

i'm going nuts - started this whole thing just wanting to finish 2 tri's - now signed up for 2, plus waiting for registration for one more and considering signing up for another - scaring myself AND now I want to work on specific times - not just finish........

The 5 Mile Lake Sprint this June will be my first. I wanted to do a half mary, but I have to stay off tarmac as much as possible. I need to look into some trail races.

5 Mile Lake was my first TRI last year...was a great experience. (edited to add: if you are talking about the Women only race, I obviously was not part of that. The course should be the same though and it was beginner friendly)

Welcome and good luck to all of the new racers this year.

I am a bit further away from Seattle than most of you (Silverdale/Kitsap area) so I didn't do too many Seattle events last year (Niketown 5k and volunteered at the Seafair Marathon).

Planned races for this year

4/13 Elma Sprint
5/10 Elma Sprint
5/26 Heart of the Valley Sprint: Corvallis, OR (hometown)
6/14 5 Mile Lake Sprint
6/21 Ft. Lewis Triple Threat Sprint #1
7/19 Ft. Lewis Triple Threat Sprint #2
8/2 Ft. Lewis Triple Threat Sprint #3
8/23 Ft. Lewis OLY
9/13 Ft. Lewis Half Marathon
11/30 Seattle Marathon

Being that I am in the military the 5 races @ Ft. Lewis are only $10 each...too cheap to pass up. I hope to plug in another event somewhere now that it looks like my wife will not be completely swamped with school this summer.

Again, good luck and have fun.

Good luck everyone! Is anyone going to be at Moses Lake? That will be my first tri ever! I'm excited. But, coming from a swimming and running background, I am terrified that I am going to be the slowest person in the world on the bike.

I just got a set of clipless pedals and shoes last weekend, and when they got installed, they found that the frame of my bike was bent, so I am having all kinds of work done on my cheapie road Schwinn and I get to pick it up tomorrow! At any rate, I'm gonna need some road time. Is anyone interested? I am a member of a Team, but they go too fast for me on their rides at this point!

Also, who's doing the St. Patty's Run? I am going to be running with my fiancee (i.e., very slowly!)

Blue Lake is a great event. The bike and run are flat. I did the Oly last year and the sprint the year before. Well run with lots of great athletes and spectators. The water in June is usually good. (It gets kind of green my August for the Mid summerTri).
I will be doing Mid Summer as an Oly. and Grand Columbian 1/2 Iron, getting ready for IM Arizona in November.

Best of luck with your first year.
It only gets to be more and more fun (and expensive) as you get into it .
