Pre-race routine:

Cereal and a banana. This morning was not so great. I have been sick for the past couple of days and still am. I figured I had plenty of time to back out of the race if I didn't feel any better as the morning went on. It was 4:30 a.m. and my wave didn't start til 8:10 a.m. - plenty of time, right? So off I went.
Event warmup:

Got into the warm up pool about 20 minutes before my wave - swam about 400 and then went and got in the pool and tread water a bit waiting for the start.
Swim
  • 14m 52s
  • 437 yards
  • 03m 24s / 100 yards
Comments:

I thought the swim went pretty well all things considered. Of course, I went out too fast at the start but I was able to calm down well before the second lap.
What would you do differently?:

I would go faster and be more aggressive in the pool. There was a woman in front of me side stroking all the way and a few times I almost got kicked in the head trying to go around or staying behind her. I should have just run her over.
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

Transition was slow for me, super slow. There was a piglet talking to me while I was getting ready to go out on the ride...sweet! It took me a few minutes to get my breath and get it together anyway.
What would you do differently?:

Not be sick, go faster.
Bike
  • 1h 20m 49s
  • 13.5 miles
  • 10.02 mile/hr
Comments:

I did very well considering I was sick and that the bike is my limiter. I actually had a lot of fun on this ride. With mean uphills there's damn good downhills and that was FUN. I made it up the first and steepest hill the first lap - the rest of the laps I walked it and jumped back on half way up and went on my way.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster (of course), not be sick! I started to get angry about halfway through when I was getting passed by a lot of people and I had to remind myself that I was sick and not even close to 100% to just relax and enjoy.
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

Another slow transition. I'd love it if after I came back to transition after the bike if my things and my spot were still there and available to me. It sucked that my space was gone and my shoes were stuck under someone else's bike and my hat was thrown off against the fence. Seriously, not everybody is super speedy - no need to throw it in my face.
Run
  • 35m 27s
  • 2.75 miles
  • 12m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

A good run, slow at first but okay. I did 2:00/:30 wralk which worked out well. I ran the entire second half of the run since it was downhill. It was quick. Yanti ran in with me at the end - I really love it when she does that! It is such a boost. I came around the corner and there was Matt and Faeron too! Yay - I'd made it!
What would you do differently?:

Run the entire way.
Post race
Warm down:

Drank water, walked around. Checked out the expo and ate a bagel. Got free stuff.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being sick.

Event comments:

Overall, I am glad I went and raced. It was fun and doing this race gives me an idea of how it will go in the coming months for the other races I have planned. Its weird how you kind of forget how races are in the off season. I had a blast this weekend hanging out with Yanti, Faeron, Matt and Jocelyn.

Great job.  Not easy to do a tri when sick.  I did Malibu sick as a dog, but it is amazing the energy you can gather to get through it.

That was one tough sprint race!

Phenomenal race, especially for being as dog-butt sick as you were. Maybe what impresses me most is the mental aspect--your ability to just let go and revel in the fun of it all, even when the circumstances suck for you.

What, no details about what you were trying to do while talking to the piglet in T1?
