That's how long it took for my swim "click".  Running slow for the same period has yielded similar preliminary results.  Most of the bike was, and still is, on the trainer where I've seen modest gains, but I won't know for sure until I hit the road (soon, I hope)

My point is this: It takes time and consistency, be patient. It's still early in the season. Find a plan, stick to it, listen to your body and results will come.

Oh, and have fun with it too. PSA over Smile

I thought this was a misplaced answer to a COJ question...my bad.

Excellent advice and it's great to read that your diligence has paid off!

Yes. And, don't be afraid to try 4 or 5 swims and/or runs a week either. Unfortunately, my schedule hasn't allowed that for the past few months, so I've been on a 3/3/3-4 schedule for a long time...

Good point. I meant to put "at a minimum" somewhere in there.

I agree with this. I have found that 3 times a week is the minimum for each discipline to get better.
This is why I have switched from Tri's to Duo's. I dropped swimming because my schedule just could not do 3 of each every week plus the strength training I do (and do not tell me to drop that - it supports MY goals). I used to run only and since I went tri my running has suffered. I swam for 18 months 3x per week and am certainly not bad at it . . . but first I do not love it and second I felt like I was not as good at any of the 3 as I wanted to be.

Now I run and bike 4x per week each and am happier.

Nice post.  Not only is it early in the season.  For most people here it is early in their 'tri-career'.  It can take YEARS of consistency to see real, meaningful results.

For all the little nit & nats we debate endlessly about, the simple truth is that if you continue to execute a simple plan (even if it's not the 'best' plan) frequently & with consistency, you will improve.

And yours JK. To your point about years, I see that most in my running. It's been 4+ years, starting w/ Chi Running and I'm first starting to see myself as a runner. I've still got work to do.

But I recall one of my first posts here I declared myself "The President of the run haters club" I've come a long way since . And so can EVERYONE else here.
