Comments: well, I'm not scheduled to do a five miler (per the higdon plan) for another three weeks. I dropped a 2 miler this week to keep my total week's mileage the same, so I came into the race feeling really good. The husband (AdCo) ran with me for moral support, and except for the first mile (where I always feel like death) I felt really good. There were some spots with a wicked horrible headwind, but other than that, I just tried to stay at a good sustainable pace. Once we hit the 4th mile marker, AdCo asked if I thought I had an 11 in me (to hit my stretch goal of 60 min). I kicked it up a little and started trying to pick people off. Pushed hard at the end (which was up a hill. sucked.) and just beat the one hour mark. What would you do differently?: not a thing, unless you're granting me power over the weather. Post race
Warm down: walked through the finish chute and directly to the car. AdCo had to fly to Vancouver tonight for work. What limited your ability to perform faster: newness to running, headwind Event comments: except for the portapottie deal, they seemed to have a better handle on the increased crowds for this race. finally got a medal right after the race instead of the next week. bagel, yogurt with honey. dropped the dog off at the ILs, drove to the race. picked up numbers, chips, shirts, last week's medal (arg)... dropped shirts back in car, got on portapotty line.... will someone please let the race directors know that if you have almost 800 people in your race, you need more than FOUR!!! portapotties? argh.
anyway, while we were on line they kept saying, make your way to the start (a 1/4 mile away), we're starting right on time, get going... we get out of the portapottie at about 4 minutes to race start. We jog to the start, we get there about a minute before they start. That was the warmup.
