So this morning I woke up and my achillies tendon hurt, easy diagnosis, I strained it, its happened before and will happen again. Now halfway through the workday it feels just a little sore but I can walk on it, probably run on it with minor but not major pain. Im sure Ill be getting the same pain tomorrow morning and for the next week.

Usually Ill say, Andy suck it up and run, and I will. But now Im wondering will I prolong the injury this way? Is it good for me? Or should I just HTFU? Will it hurt more to run or not to run (really looked foward to 400m repeats tonight)?

What does everyone else do with this injuries?

I had achillies tendonitis before and ran through it...It wasn't the best decision I had made.  I ended up being out a lot longer than I would had I decided to take a few days off stretching & icing.  But, you said you've had this before, So I would imagine you would know if running on it would make it worse or not.  Either way I wouldn't do any speed work.  I'll train through just about anything except achillies issues and that's only because I'm fearful that it will sideline me again :-(

 Good luck

Yeah its one of those choices I make that are always wrong. I guess I just want to see how wrong it is. My assitant college coach once told me...just down 3-4 pills of Ibprofin for a max of 2 days and run on it. come a few days it will all be gone.

Isn't that generally a bad idea - to rely on ibuprofen? Esp, if this is a chronic issue for you. Can some medical types weigh in?

x2. If you can handle antiflams, take them, but I would rest too. I am not a doc, though.

If it just came on, and is not that bad, it sounds like a little rest will do the trick. And, missing one or two runs is better than having to deal with an injury all season. I say, aquajog your next run or two, and then return to running. Stretch, ice, massage, rest. Also, work on those calves as they could be contributing to it.

Yeah Im going to take the next few days off of running, which is no fun, Im hoping to go sub 17 for my first 5k of the season, may have to wait.

Ill focus on my swimming and biking, which I never do. And be downing my happy pills Stupid calf, just when im getting back into shape....oh and stretching, thats rare, never do it, dont like it.

Might help - not to start the whole debate on stretching and whether or not it prevents injury. But I know that if I stretch after I run, my recovery is much better. Don't knock it til you try it.

But if this is a "pain" thing, I'd get it professionally checked anyway.
