My LBS says it will give me a deal on ordering a Felt S32 tri bike, which I believe will be a small % above their cost. They told me ballpark $1,300 for the bike.

The highlights of the bike are dura ace bar end shifters and ultegra rear derailleur, 105 front derailleur and FSA gossamer Mega EXO 2-piece crankset.

It's an aluminum frame with carbon forks.

I'm not technically savvy on bikes, I essentially just ride them so I wanted to know if this was a good deal. I've heard of "good deals" on the internet and am sure there are some however I'm balancing a good deal for me with keeping funds local at the LBS...

that is about 10% off retail. What else do you get buying @ the LBS? assembly is surely included. what about a fitting? the latter two will not be included from online sales and can be costly.

Check out the thread about Javelin bikes and then make a decision. I had been considering Felt or Cervelo, but when I read up on the Javs and saw that for a fraction of the cost I could pick one up, my mind was made up.

YMMV however

This shop specializes in repairs and then next would be sales. Unfortunately the science of a proper fit is their weakest area and therefore isn't a value when evaluating the price.

I love my S32!  It's almost 2 yrs old and it's been great bike.  My husband has the same bike.  It's kinda lame to have the same bike, but whatever.  I'd love to have the new B12, but I haven't given the S32 enough time in our family yet.

I saw the Javelin link the other day and it definitely got my attention. However as I mentioned, I'm trying to get a good value for me and yet spend some money at the LBS.

The reason being, they are so fair and good on their repairs. I've bent rims, messed up cables etc (things I should probably be able to fix but don't want to bother with it) and they only charge me me a fraction of what other shops have charged for similar work....

I can't seem to see where you're pointing me with the link. Regarding the '07 models, my LBS did say they'd check on closeouts etc if I didn't want to order the '08 right away.

Thanks for the tips!

I got my S25 (next model up) a couple of years ago closeout for $1199 and I think it was regularly $1799?

If you can wait until September/October - it was worth it for me...

Woops! Missed that. I am sorta doing the same, as I have started using a new shop and am going to have them do the assembly/tune-up and continuing maintenance on the bike. So while I may not be in to them for $1300 off the bat, they will definitely get it through work, fixes, and component upgrades down the long-haul.

Gotta keep our LBSs going though, so I like your reasoning.

That being said...if it's an extra $1000 out of pocket for me vs. out of the LBS's sales numbers, count me in for being selfish to a small degree

I got the S32 in 2006. Awesome bike and bang for the value! I'm Cervelo land (only tri bike brand sold for miles around) so I get lots of double takes and compliments on mine.
