Age Group Rank = 496/571
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6:45 and took all my medication. Got dressed, pinned the number on, grabbed some food and water and the car key and headed downstairs. We stashed the hotel key in the car because carrying the car key was much easier. (No bag check? Strange) At 7:30, I ate a bag of Jelly Belly Sport Beans. Didn't feel like eating a Clif Bar (probably a bad call on my part).
Event warmup:

Walked to the start line and milled around there. Went to the porta-potties then went to the start line with a huge mass of people.
Run

Comments:

This is the first race I've managed to run the whole time!! I ran with my husband, Andy. We started off really easy and let everyone pass us. Basically, the goal was to keep running and that's exactly what we did. I was having kind of a hard time overheating before the first water stop and near the turn around. After I had water both times, I felt a lot better.

Mostly, I was proud of myself for not giving up and starting to walk and keeping the feet moving. We were pretty slow, but Andy hasn't been training too much and I was trying not to get my legs tired. In that regard, I think the race was a success.

I was pretty warm, almost too warm, which makes me think wearing shorts and a tshirt tomorrow won't be a problem even though it is supposed to be a bit colder.
What would you do differently?:

Not much. I wasn't trying to be fast with this race, so I wouldn't have changed much.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked to the porta-potties. Then got a bag of food and walked back to the hotel.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Holding back for the half-marathon tomorrow.

Event comments:

It would have been nice to have one more water station. The second one was a little far away. Looking at the map, it seems ok, but on the course, I felt like the turn-around would have been a good place to have another water stop.

I don't like having to walk so much on the sand after the race. That was kind of annoying, especially for people running two days. I really don't want to have sand in my shoes for tomorrow.
