Total Time = 1h 22m 33s
Overall Rank = 292/492
Age Group = 25-29
Age Group Rank = 34/49
Pre-race routine:

Woke up with a stomach ache, absolutely exhausted from not really sleeping well the night before. I took a shower to wake up, packed up the truck and left. Drank a bottle of water on the way over and ate half a bagel. I couldn't eat the whole thing as I woke up feeling full for some reason, and every extra bite made my stomach hurt more.
Event warmup:

None.
Swim
  • 06m 16s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 05s / 100 meters
Comments:

I tried swimming with my new technique that I have been practicing over the past few weeks. I felt so good coming out of the pool and not really breathing heavy at all. Seems like it works :) Had to dodge some people at the turns so that added to my time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing.
Transition 1
  • 01m 35s
Comments:

Had a great T1. The cold hit me like a brick wall though coming out of the heated building. I was freezing trying to get my shoes on.
What would you do differently?:

Practice putting bike shoes on wet feet before race day.
Bike
  • 43m 38s
  • 12 miles
  • 16.50 mile/hr
Comments:

I was told the course was flat. It wasn't. There were three big hills on the back side of the loop that I was mentally unprepared for and I did horrible at climbing them like usual. I was fast on the downhills though, got up to 30 mph on a few.
What would you do differently?:

Drive the course beforehand and see what its like.
Transition 2
  • 01m 52s
Comments:

I was having a hell of a time getting my socks on as my feet were still wet which I was not expecting. I have tried running without socks before and it was Blister City for a week afterwards, so no socks is a no-go with me.
What would you do differently?:

Practice putting socks on wet feet, or bring a towel to dry my feet off.
Run
  • 29m 15s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 09m 25s  min/mile
Comments:

The run was really good for me. I kept my pace down and worked on maintaining a good heart rate. A guy at the end tried to beat me to the finish line, but I out sprinted him for the last 50 or so yards to beat him. The crowd was loving it!
What would you do differently?:

Drink water in T2.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around to catch my breath after sprinting the end.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The hills.

Event comments:

The bagpipes and Irish band were cool to listen to coming back to the transition area. Overall, a really fun race and fun atmosphere. The guy in the green costume was really funny.

congrats on a well done race (wind/cold/hills aside).  Hopefully we'll get to meet up at one of these races (PlayTri Festival?).  Nice T1 indeed!

Great Race!  Yes -- we were seeded quite close together.  I was number 654 so about 2 minutes apart on the start I would say.  Nice ride -- those hills were brutal!  Nice job managing them though!

I hear ya on the blister city --- Never run without socks -- tried that once on a workout and it was TERRIBLE.

Hope to meet you at another race sometime soon.  Our pacing is about that same it appears.
