Pre-race routine:

Fighting a cold.
Had a nap.
Went to the facility early and helped set up the course.
Listened to some music.
Had a powerbar
Event warmup:

Swam 100 metres. After setting up the run course/transition area.
Swim
  • 17m 46s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 22s / 100 meters
Comments:

Times are unofficial. I started pretty far down the line, so I think my time will be better.

Personal Best Swim Time
What would you do differently?:

Go faster
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
Comments:

Someone moved my tri top and when I went to put it on it got stuck and I ended getting it on inside out. Lost two minutes doing that...the rest of the transition was flawless.
What would you do differently?:

Wear the tri top during the swim.
Run
  • 26m 48s
  • 5 kms
  • 05m 22s  min/km
Comments:

Started off think I'm never going to do this, but I stayed strong, passed a few people, but got passed by tons of people. They were just speeding by. Very fast race.
Ironman lapped me twice!
Good posture. Felt good. Could have gone lots faster. Didn't push enough. I still have that mental block.

Personal best on the run, I think.
What would you do differently?:

Push harder. It is a race!
Post race
Warm down:

Smiled a lot.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

mess up with tri top. Lack of water during the run.

Event comments:

Last year I did the swim in 24 and the run in 34, so I think this is an improvement! A personal best even.

Started out fast, even though I didn't want to. Passed the person in front of me, then slowed down and then got stuck in a log jam with three people directly in front of me. No point in passing. Settled into a routine. Heart rate was pretty high before I got into the water, but that settled too. Breathing was pretty good.
Suit: Craft tri suit
Course: Laps were 50m per length, two lengths per lane, under rope and next lane and continue for the whole width of the pool. Took a while to get used to, but settled. Swim coach Jason was there I could see him motioning for me to stretch out my stroke, which I did.

Very good T, even sicker than a dog too!  Maybe consider going topless, but painting on your top with body paint?  Congrats!

Congrats on your race result. Very impressive improvement, even though you were sick!

That swim sounded crazy - snaking up and down the lanes of the pool... I guess it makes it easier on volunteers and competitors, since no one had to count laps.

I would agree with swimming with the tri top on. It might cause a little resistance in the water, but it would greatly ease T1 struggles. (Do a couple of practice swims with it on to see how it feels.)

I'm not sure what HRM you have, but I often will wear mine during a race - it's sufficiently water resistant to have it on even during the swim. If you had your HRM for the run, it may have helped with your pacing - to give you to confidence to push a little harder.

Once again, great job! Now take care of that cold!

Good Idea! I took off the sweater yesterday afternoon. All my fellow Greek and Italian Racers thought I was naked!

Excellent job with the PR!  I know the feeling of not wanting to run, believe me...the thing is, your legs usually catch up to you very soon and then you wonder why the thought to stop even crept into your head.  A fine race and RR.  Thanks for posting!
