Overall Rank = 76/294

Age Group Rank = 8/20
Event warmup:

Got transition ready and went for a "warm-up" ride with team. This quickly turned into some sort of friendly race, but only for about 20 min. Milled about trying to shoo the sand gnats (no-see-um's), and then did a couple of laps in the pool before my start time.
Swim
  • 10m 37s
  • 547 yards
  • 01m 56s / 100 yards
Comments:

This sucked. I never found a rythym, swallowed/breathed-in water, almost got hit by someone coming the other direction on MY side of the late...twice! Got passed by 3 people. HR went through the roof. Need I say more?
What would you do differently?:

everything
Transition 1
  • 01m 17s
What would you do differently?:

Need to mount shoe holders so shoes can stay on pedals
Bike
  • 33m 1s
  • 11.9 miles
  • 21.63 mile/hr
Comments:

Felt fatigued from pool, had hard time getting my breath and lowering HR, and worked hard for moderate performance.
What would you do differently?:

Not suck at swimming so much
Transition 2
  • 01m 8s
Run
  • 21m 13s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 06m 49s  min/mile
Comments:

Calves cramped in first 1/4 mile, and felt like I was going to puke until 1.5 mile mark.
What would you do differently?:

go faster?
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

HR spike early and pool issues cascaded to derail race through most of it. Had to make up so much time on the bike, and wasn't aerobicly ready to.

Event comments:

I guess I have to wait an entire year for a do-over.

Yo Speedy! That really sucks about the swim. I know just one little thing can totally screw up the rest of the race. I was in shock to see you having trouble because I know you're so much faster than I am! It was great to see you on the bike. I tried to keep you in sight for a while but you pulled out of view. Seeing you race was a great inspiration for me. Your time looks pretty strong so don't sweat it! It was great to see you guys and I hope to see you soon! Thai's on me next time!

Sorry your race didn't turn out like you had hoped... but you'll get it next time! Of course, I would LOOOOVE to have your run split. You are smokin fast!

Good job David! Sub 7 on the run with cramps and nausea is awesome. You pushed through, got it done and came out ahead of last year’s time. Way to go!

You still had enough fitness to smoke the run after all the crap you dealt with in the water and had to recover a bit on the bike. So it's not all bad. It's the first race of the season. You got the sucky one out of the way early. The rest will be better. Langley's wetsuit legal Keep practicing the swim. Long and smooth is what you are looking for. Go as fast you can in the water with the least amount of effort so you can kill it on the bike (and run for you)!
