Yes, you run counter clock wise around the lake and then continue up a paved trail and turn left on a dirt road. The dirt road intersects a regular road and you turn left there and run at least two hills on the regular road before the turn around. The route back retraces the route out except when you get near the lake you turn right for the finish line and do not run back around the lake. The map of the route is on the TriBlueSky website. The water station for the run is about half way down the dirt road.

Thanks JTee!  I had a copy of that map.  I felt it left alot to be desired in the scale department.  It looked like you turned around when you got to the regular road.  I liked the counter clockwise part around the lake...it'll give my legs a chance to realize they are running!

Hey All! My first tri too! I'm hoping to do the whole series. We'll see.

I agree on the 'festival pole' idea. It'd make the day alot more fun if we could have a group of us newbies meet up and hang for a little bit

Good luck to you all. One month and counting!

Okay, do we know anything about whether or not we need wetsuits??? Is anyone wearing a wetsuit for this race? If so, is it a full suit or one without sleeves?

I'm thinking that the way this winter has been, we might want to wear one because the water may be colder than normal. Anyone elses thoughts?

I signed up this morning.  One of the coordinators mentioned there were only about 25 slots left as of yesterday.

The party pole is a great idea. It can also be used to pull me out of the water when I drown (Due to the total lack of training.) Im still hear guys and will still do John Tanner. As for me, No wetsuit. I agree on the cold won't kill you and I probably wouldn't be able to get it off. I need to get back into it so bad.

Congrats everyone else for signing up and making it your first tri too!

Got a new wetsuit -- but don't know how to use it..gawd! I will bring it along just in case the officials will allow us to wear them..... as i read in here, previous meets officials refused to allow westuits even though the water was freezing.... party pole sounds fun..I will be he one that look like a deer in the headlights... a total newbie here. Yet another cold..dang it! One month to go, can't afford to slack and delay by darn old! Keep it up....

It's getting warmer now...is anyone going to try an open water swim out there, just to test things out?

According to the lady who answered the phone at the park, the water temp is currently about 70.  From what I've read, that will be chilly, but not unbearable w/o a wetsuit.  Hopefully, it will go up some more with 2 weeks of warmer weather.

Thanks for the report Whitney.

The weather the next 10 days has highs in the 80's a couple of days.  C'mon mother nature...do your thing and warm up that water

I'm probably going to head out there next weekend (23 April) and do a bit of an open water swim in the lake and ride the course.  Unless anyone else does the same before that, I'll post my thoughts on the course.

Strangely, as this is my first tri and it's now exactly two weeks away, I'm not nervous.  I've got a room out there for Friday night, and I'm totally stoked about it.

By the way, I wiped out on my bike for the first time yesterday.  I've even got the road rash to prove it, plus the potentially bent fork.  My LBS asked me to keep an eye (and ear) on how the bike handles and feels and report anything unusual to them immediately.

Y'all take care-

Steve

I did the bike yesterday. I did not swim. The water is kind of brown. Lots of rollers for the bike, but only one bad hill.

Getting nervous here -- not feeling confident here.... I think I am afraid of the cold dirty lake. Will travel to the park this weekend to check out the site since it's so close to my work place. You think I already check the site out. Any advise on how to train for these 10 days before the event?

to be completely honest, i'm nervous as hell too. no confidence here just 10 days out. i'm hoping that the lake IS cold so that I'll be more concerned with the water temperature than I will with my exploding lungs

Good luck in your training this next week...see yall next Saturday!

One great swimming drill you can do to prepare for dark murky water is to practice swimming with your eyes closed.  Only open them when you turn your head to breathe or sight, this helped me tremendously last year.

Is anyone taking a wetsuit to the race?  I'm on the fence about buying one this weekend.

Cheers

I am taking my wetsuit alone but never worn it before -- I almost rip the darn thing when I first got it. Apparently there's a specific way of wearing the wetsuit. Whos knows -- I will be it along just in case the water is freezing. I heard it will be cold next week....... I will be at the back of the pack in the swim leg -- breaststroker here.... next year I will advance to freestyle.

Weather Channel is saying t-storms at 6 am moving to showers by 9 am.  Temps between 59 & 62!  WAAAAHHHH! :-

What happens to the race if there are thunderstorms?  Any clothing ideas?  I was already resigned to throwing on a long-sleeve shirt over my bra, but now I'm thinking raincoat.

Adamson Square restaurants -- Downtown Carrollton
Corner Cafe is a great place if you like deli style sandwiches -- a great place to chill. Next to Coner cafe is Pearl's -- Carrollton's high end restaurant. Down the square, Burrito Jones -- order to make supersized burritos. Rome Street Brewery, a new dive -- I think they should have thier liqour license by now. All restaurants in the square are decent. I like Corner cafe because it's so layback and delicious food too.

Lazy Donkey is also good -- on Bankhead Hwy ... Mellow Mushroom is on Maple street which is close to the university. Opposite MelloM is South Street Grill. The Mansion is Carrollton's instituition -- southern style cooking/bar/restaurant -- also on Maple Street.

2 new sushi restaurants -- Osaka on Maple St (next to Gold's Gym) and Kobe on Bankhead hwy.

Everything closes early here -- except Applebee's.

Any restaurants not mentioned here and you found one in town -- not recommended.

Let me know if you need more info, sranney -- I work at Carrollton so I am pretty familiar with the city.

See you all Saturday morning...
