Pre-race routine:

I woke up late but I did get all the neccessary 'stuff' in me prior to leaving the house.
Event warmup:

Just tried to stay warm in the cold wind. The sky started to clear up by swim start for my wave.
Swim
  • 14m 58s
  • 754 meters
  • 01m 59s / 100 meters
Comments:

The sinus infection reared its ugly head quickly and breathing in the pool was tough. I was way too slow per 100 and the first 200 should have bee a lot faster.
What would you do differently?:

Not get sick two days prior to a race! silly.
Transition 1
  • 00m 56s
Comments:

T1 was great. The new siglet prooved its worth here. I also left the socks at home and just went bare. The sun was still out during T1 so I left the windbreaker behind.
What would you do differently?:

Go faster! I had a heel stuck in one shoe and had a hard time with it.
Bike
  • 38m 17s
  • 12 miles
  • 18.81 mile/hr
Comments:

They need to pave Euclid Rd.!

The sun was still out until half way through the first lap. The clouds rolled in and the temp dropped 10 degrees. I was wishing I had my coat I left in T1. My chest, legs and feet went numb which was better than the burning sensation I first experienced.

I had to pause a couple of times to keep from puking. I think this was from still being a bit sick. This of course caused my race time to suffer.

Fluid intake was limited by nasuea and the bitter cold.
What would you do differently?:

Not be SICK!! hahaha
Transition 2
  • 00m 38s
Comments:

A great T2. Hey if everything else sucks do good T's count for anything? I love the singlet.
What would you do differently?:

I should have put the coat on here too... but alas I didn't;).
Run
  • 32m 15s
  • 3 miles
  • 10m 45s  min/mile
Comments:

I was pleasantly surprised by my run time. I had to stop several times just to concentrate on not puking. I continued a fast walk duirng those times so that had to have helped.

Again fluid intake was limited by nasuea and the bitter cold.
Post race
Warm down:

Walked around a bit until my HR came down. Drove home after collecting my things.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Being still fairly sick and only half way through my antibiotics.

Event comments:

I was really looking forward to this race and putting down a great time. All the split times came from my watch and may or may not be accurate. I had to cut my own T1 and T2 times as they lump both in the bike leg.

You cant control being sick (esp when you have kids!), kudos to you for getting out there and racing anyways. Its the start of the season, and those were great splits- think what you can do when healthy!

Well done!

Great job in the race, especially being sick! I can't believe you raced that hard under those conditions. Awesome!
