Pre-race routine:

Some light stretching, the stick, and gatorade/water. Race started at 7:00am and I just couldn't eat anything. I had a banana and a Snickers Marathon bar but I generally am not hungary when I wake up. Stomach also felt full from the day before which also led to some bathroom issues.

  • 13.1 miles

Comments:

Had a great race yesterday! Beat my sub 1:45 goal by over 2 minutes. I was nervous leading up to this race as I still had some chest congestion from the Flu 2 weeks earlier which knocked out 7 days of training then led to a light EZ week prior to the race. So, I wasn't fully expecting to reach my goal. Splits are as follows:
Mile 1: 8:23
Mile 2: 8:03
Mile 3: 7:53
Mile 4: 7:52
Mile 5: 7:50
Mile 6: 8:00
Mile 7: 7:55
Mile 8: 7:48
Mile 9: 7:50
Mile 10: 7:40
Mile 11: 7:40
Mile 12: 7:37
Mile 13: 7:24
Mile .1: :45
What would you do differently?:

Felt really comfortable during the race. HR was good and I wasn't breathing heavy until around mile 11. Very happy that I was able to achieve negative splits as well. Only thing I may change is that I didn't push a little harder earlier in the race and might have stayed with the 1:45 pacer a little to long. Maybe could have hit 1:40 but was a little nervous to push too hard especially with the chest congestion and recovering from the Flu so not a big deal. Really ran a good race and am looking forward to next running goal of a Sub 4:00 Marathon later this year. Have a lot more confidence that I will/should achieve that goal after this race.
Post race
Warm down:

Post race grabbed a water and a banana as well as my finishers medal and hat then sat down on the beach with friends waiting for 1 of our buddies to finish. All 3 of us reached our goals in the race. Then went to grab some breakfast and checkout of the hotel for the 5 hr ride home which was much more enjoyable since we all had a great race.

Event comments:

Great, organized race. Did the Marathon in 07 and had a great time with that as well. They give out a great shirt, hat and medal as well. Course is flat and fast and finish on the boardwalk at the beach.

WHOO WHOO! Nice job in meeting your goal - and I agree, the ride home is always better if you do well!
