Bob Green's races would be considered "large" if they attracted more than 60 people. Yes, they are pretty small, down-home flavor events. Don't expect a lot in the way of ammenaties. He'll have water on the course at the mile mark, one guy at the turn around for each the bike and run, and that's pretty much it. That's not to say it isn't organized -- he does a lot of these events, and it's a pretty well-oiled machine. It's just a pretty low-budget affair. The kids races are great -- they're allowed to wade instead of swim, parents (or others) are allowed to run along during the bike and run, you can help the kids in transition, and they ALL get medals.

I noticed that the Olympic distance is a USAT Regional qualifier for the National Age Group Championship in September. Is this going to dramatically increase the participation?

It's possible that it will. I'd have to ask Rory and Deanna if it has. But the net effect is that the qualifying places go deeper into the AG's (33% rather than 10%).

Hey, yeah, I still pop up every now and then, and keep my training blog somewhat updated... So, racing, uh, is that what we're calling it now... :P

Beat the Bridge 8k 5/18
Sammamish Sprint Tri 5/31
Five Mile Lake Sprint Tri 6/14
FireCracker Sprint Tri 7/04 (possible)
Ocean Shores Sprint Tri 7/07
SeaFair Sprint Tri 7/20
Federal Escape Sprint Tri 7/28
Beaver Lake Sprint Tri 8/18
Heart of the Sound Tri 8/26
Seattle Escape from the Rock 9/09
Kirkland Sprint Tri

These are primarily tentative, and are based on my availability with work... ugh... So, how have you, lynn and liz been?

What does this mean?  I am kind of dense about such stuff.

In this race, if you finish in the top 33% within your age group, you will qualify for the National Championship in September in Portland. More typically, only the top 10% qualify. Therefore it may be easier to gain a qualifying spot at this particular event. I would think that would drive up the number of participants.

I've got no desire to run anything longer than a sprint right now, I tend to be fairly competitive, and I don't have the time to dedicate to anything more than a 3-4 mile run or 10 mile bike, but I am running 5 miles tonight... Gotta love living right near alki... Besides my body has self-destructed enough from the winter, my usual 220lbs has atrophied to about 202lbs, due to the work over the winter. Patrol isn't a muscle building job, it's a job that wears your body down, my knee is still swollen... Anyway, sounds great, definitely see you at a couple of races.

What are BT'ers doing about lodging for this race? Do most people just camp? I haven't done it before, and i have never been to the area

thanks!

I don't have my accomodations yet...but I am not going to be able to get there in time for Friday packet pick up (I have yet to figure out a way to get paid for not going to work).

I may camp (that was the original idea) but may end up just hoteling it!

yea, i looked at hotels, but i can't find one for under $100, and i'm poor. I may just sleep in my car (subaru, can fold down seats), and either lock up my bike or nicely ask someone with a hotel to let me stash it in their room

After going to the Gorge this weekend, I realized that the cost of gas for Moses Lake Tri will be like $60-70.. Anyone want to carpool? My car is pretty small, so I'd prefer to get a ride from someone else and split the gas, but I can drive too.. Originally I was thinking of driving in really early the morning of the race, but I'm willing to consider driving in the evening before, not too early however.

I've got a message in to a friend who is in that area to find a good location for such festivities. Stay tuned!

I originally thought this was going to be a small event like Elma but it looks like there are going to be a lot of people there. About 200 are signed up so far for the Olympic and another 120 for the Sprint. I guess this is still small by some standards but I hope the organizers are geared up for this. Looks like many more than in prior years.

I was also preparing for a very hot day but long term forecasts (for what they are worth) show high temps in the low to mid 70's. That would be a relief if true.

This is the Regional Chapmionship (spots for Nationals go deeper than other USAT sanctioned races), so I would expect a higher turn-out.

But Rory and Deanna put on many races, and every one I've done has been high-quality. The 5-Mile Lake sprint last year got somewhere close to 300 participants, and the Flowing Lake race was limited to 200 by the parks department (though the crew could have handled more easily). BuDu has been in the business for several years now, and they've got the races pretty dialed-in. Have no fears.

BuDu Racing ROCKS!  I have NO complaints about them! I'm going to do another couple of their races before the season is over   I'm SO glad it won't be horribly hot in Moses Lake. I worry about passing out in the heat, especially on the run! Reading up on hydration as we speak!   I'm excited about the swim and bike. Not so much on the run   If I have to walk it, I shall!  I'm sure I won't be the only one!
