We did it! I made every mistake in the book. WE got no sleep, ate no dinner last night, and got into the scariest motel in the world at midnight. That combination really helped with the chest cold I have been fighting, and I woke up basically unable to breathe.

Swim:

Since I was scared about breathing and have never practiced OWS, this was interesting. Bascially, I have been a competitive swimmer my whole life, and know that I can swim that distance...I thought I don't need no stinking practice. WRONG! I don't know exactly what happened, but I found myself right outside the first buoy and just became overcome with panic. I could not swim a proper freestyle to save my life...I have no idea what exactly occurred...I almost quit because the suit was so tight on my neck I thought I was suffocating. So, I turned over and swam an 800 backstroke. Not the smartest move, but I finished the swim in around 16 minutes...

Bike:

That course was SO windy! All I have to say is that I am one slow biker and it stinks.

Run (or pathetically slow trot):

Um, the lack of sleep and sickness caught up with me here, as I had to walk most of the first mile. I didn't get any sort of rhythym until mile three, and I ran my slowest five 5k in a race! 31:00 or so.

That being said, I will be jumping in Lake Washington tomorrow or Monday and rededicating myself to training, hydration and SLEEP in the coming weeks. I can't wait to do it again!

Congrats, Lynne and Leslie!

What a fun day! It was my favorite triathlon out of the 5 I've done. And I thought I didn't like small races.. Organization was great, volunteers so enthusiastic! And I got a bottle of Hammer gel out of the deal. It was nice a few BTers too

Thanks for posting those pix....geez, I look like a freakin' bowling pin in my wetsuit. UGh. Well, it worked ok!  And that is truly a tender moment with me and Lynne!  Hee.  It was fun to talk to Sister Madonna--it had been many years since I  have seen her.  What a fun day!!  I am doing my RR tomorrow, as I arrived home to over-the-top crazy kids and dog--seriously, like they'd been saving up the insanity for months just for this evening when I am tired from no sleep for 48 hours, plus the tri!

Can't wait to do it again.  What a great race put on by BuDu, they do a super job.  Sorry I didn't meet you Rachel, or popsracer either.  There's always the next race!    Mike, did you place in your AG?  You were so fast!

I guess that I swam my 800 backstroke in under 2:00 per hundred...including my panic attack!

I am going to try to do Lake Padden's Rec Division next.

I'm sorry I didn't get to chat with any of you. I think I saw a few of you on the run but was too self absorbed in my own living hell to say anything.

It was a great event. I cannot say enough about the organizers and volunteers.

I had a great swim bettering my goal by almost 5 minutes. I think it may have been less than a mile. Anyone else think it was a little short?

The wind heading out was horrible. I felt like a I was working hard and going nowhere. It really zapped me. The ride back in was nice though with the wind at our backs. Felt like I was flying.

Totally died on the run. It was all I could do to keep moving. I was very, very disappointed as I was well ahead of my goal before the run. Oh well, I learned a lot and had a great trip. Lake Padden is next!!
