I'm looking into getting some edurance tri-shorts for a HIM. Does anyone have experiece with these. All of the ones I find are around $95-$100, is it worth the extra price? Does the extra padding effect running much?

I need help with this question too.

I was looking at the DeSoto Forza line (apparently their racing line, replacing the "Power Short") and also the Zoot Ultra Tri Short.

Are they worth it?

This is obviously one of those personal things, but for me my tyr tri shorts started to bother me riding after a couple of hours, specifically the seam that runs right down the front, as is on many tri shorts. And let's just say it irritated a spot I didn't want irritated

I ordered a pair of speedo xd skim race shorts and liked them, although I had to return them for a larger size so I haven't yet got a chance to really test them out, but no seam so I'm hopeful. And they're not that expensive. Here's a link:

I like the Oomph Lava Compression.  Similar to the Kilauea, but without all the loops and pockets (they do have one rear pocket) and a little less expensive.

The DeSoto Forza shorts are great shorts as well.  Very long lasting, and I like the low-rise option.

2XU makes a good long distance short.  They don't hold up well in chlorine though

The main thing I look at for the higher price is the quality of the seams, 'cause when they've been rubbing between your nethers and a bike seat for 50mi, it makes a HUGE difference.

TYR shorts have yucky seams no matter the price. I don't like Zoot seams either.

I just ordered a pair of Louis Garneau Shark shorts; there's a nearly imperceptible seam on the chamois and on the shorts. I don't know about their other models. The Sharks usu. run $60-$80 and I got them for $40.

I've only ever raced in De Soto shorts and never noticed a seam, but then I've also never raced this far....

Have you tried the Zoot Endurance race shorts?

I don't know if the Sharks are still up on the menswear (I almost exclusively use men's clothes), but they didn't have any S or M, so I bought the women's M.

I have both Oomph Lava Compression and just got the Kilauea on sale for $112. They have a great distance pad that works well for tris and is a little more substantial than most tri shorts. I have a third type that was cheaper with the same pad but the fabric is less supportive. For women they tend to dig a little in your waist (I have about 4-5 friends who all say the same thing) and you may want to go up a size.
