Subject: Tri Drama
Does anyone else experience drama at their gym or tri club? My local gym is very triathlon focused and a very large portion of the patrons are triathletes and have formed a variety of training groups. I can deal with the cliques, and also the high-schoolish drama that sometimes comes with girls spending a lot of time together. As I am also picky who I train with since I see them more often than my SO.
But...I have more recently experienced drama with coaches. Like, I've been taking lessons/classes from one coach, and was interested in getting a different point of view from someone else. Another gal did this and was given pretty poor treatment from her original coach for about 2 months. Sort of like "cheating" on your hair stylist I guess...

Any advice on how to tread carefully on this issue? Or should I just not give a cats patooty and do what's best for me and my fitness?

Yes - be polite and professional. if anyone has a problem with it, its their drama, not yours.

You don't know the specifics of that situation, really. Do what's best for your fitness. You can't predict what Coach #1 will do; IF she gives you the chilly shoulder, deal with it then.

Got to do what's best for you - that's what it comes down to (being nice of course!)

Triathlon is not a team sport, so you should do what's right for you.

This is why I likes Tri's and don't have a coach.  I am on a tri team but really only for the master's swims.  I did not like high school so don't want to relive it as an adult.  As far as your situation, if you coach is paid by you and you don' t like their attitude fire them plain and simple.  If they express oposition to you asking for advice take your money elsewhere.

Thanks for the quick replies everyone! I will of course be polite and friendly if anything goes south in the situation. I really do like the coaches/instructors, as well as the club where I work out. But I would like to change things up and I would rather not hurt someone's feelings in the process...or end up with my feelings hurt. It's just a bummer that as adults, we still have to worry about silly stuff like this. I guess we don't HAVE to worry about it, but obviously I do.

Thanks again!

You didn't do anything wrong, obviously. You have one goal, which is to get as good as you can. If that means that you are talking to multiple coaches, that it means you are talking to multiple coaches. Athletes do that all the time.

If your coach is being a diva, then you should be thinking about finding another coach.

It's the same as giving a "monkeys hootenany" of course.

well my running club has a ton of drama. We are like a small town with 400 members and everyone gossips about everyone except for me.

Even 2 lbs have drama with each other. They laugh at each other's bike fittings.
