Pre-race routine:

Ate oatmeal with banana, raisons, & nuts & drank some coffee.
Event warmup:

There was no warm up today. The race started late :-( I had decided last minute to wear shorts so I was pretty cold standing there waiting for the race to start. I would bet that less than 10% of the runnders wore shorts. Once the race started I was perfectly dressed, I think. Those with pants on had to be hot.
Run

Comments:

I think I ran well today. I felt good most of the way. There was one really long hill that almost got the best of me but I sucked it up and ran up it slowly. I did have to walk some of the hills but not because I wanted to but because everyone else was walking and it was impossible to pass.
What would you do differently?:

Be more confident on the trails when I want to pass people. It agitated me that I didn't pass some folks that were having difficulty.
Post race
Warm down:

Ate a bagel with peanut butter then got in my jeep and went home.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

I'm not sure anything limited my ability to perform better except maybe my ability to pass people. I'll have to work on that.

Event comments:

I had a lot of fun running this. I really like trail runs. They're challenging and the miles fly by. It wasn't too bad going by myself either. I would have liked to have the company on the drive up and back, though. My schedule called for 1:45 of running today, so that was my goal really. I was pretty much right on the money :-)

Performance: Good
Course: It was a nice trail run. Some challenging hills and 4 creek crossings. There were some incredibly steep muddy embankements to climb after the creek crossings. I had to actually push a fellow up one of them because he couldn't get up. He was preventing me from moving on. It seemed a lot of people were concerned with getting dirty and wet. That's a little ridiculous to me since the race is advertised and named MUDFEST.

Good race and just pass those suckers when you get the chance! I'm jealous as I really wanted to do this race (maybe next year) but couldn't pull off the Easter weekend race with the SO.

love that race. you have really hustle in the beginning to get ahead of folks before the single track starts. did you get any easter eggs? how was the band? when I did it they have an elderly couple playing the keyboard and singing and it was awesome! do they still have the beer/ margerita tent atop of viagra hill?

I'm learning that you have to really hustle to get in the front of some of the folks.  They even give that first section on the road to do so.  I'll have to take advantage of that the next time. Honestly, I didn't think I was going to feel as good as I did for the run.   Yes, they still do have the beer and margeritas at the top of that monsterous hill and they do have the elderly band there as well.  At the end of the race I heard the music but I couldn't tell where it was coming from.  I looked around and this old guy was slouched over a chair singing.  He looked as though he couldn't stand, but I did see him standing a little bit later.

 It's a great race :-)
