Subject: The mental side of training and racing

Can anyone recommend a book or  web site on the mental/psychological part of triathlon training and racing?  I have read many books on the physical part of training and racing, but haven't done any reading on the psychology of triathlon.

I asked Santa for Sport Psychology for Cyclists $10 this year.  I don't know if its any good, but for $10 I'm willing to risk it.

I have an out of print version of "Mental Toughness Training for Sports" by James Loehr, IMO it's a good book. I noticed that he now has a new version of the same book out. Might be worth taking a look.

Edit: I need to add that this isn't tri specific but covers a number of sports.

IronFit has a chapter on it. It has lots of other tips too throughout the book. It is an easy read.

I highly recommend Volleyball Cybernetics. Although there are some volleyball specific examples and drills, it mainly deals with mental toughness and focus.

For anyone that is interested, I have modified the mental training program that I use with my volleyball players to work from a triathlon point of view. It deals with both improving physical performance through mental training as well as building mental toughness. The article can be found at http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cms/article-detail.asp?articleid=... I would be interested to hear whether or not this is useful to anyone so feedback is welcome!

I took Sports Psych in college. Should have saved my textbook!
