Like ChrisM I'm just a bit over 6'2" and early last spring I was 240+lbs. too. Just starting to exercise regularly has gotten me down to 220 currently and at 220 I've been called skinny. It's partially genetic I'd guess; one of my uncles was a successfull pro wrestler about 30 years ago. Any serious training should drop me another 20 lbs. but I doubt I'll ever get much below 200 again.

Here's some other perspective on this. I swam all through high school (distance freestyle) I was 6'0" 145 lbs freshman year of college. I was "skinny boy". Now I'm 6'2 and 230lbs. Yes, I 'm out of shape (for the moment) and my goal weight wise is 200 lbs. But more important to me is that I'm in good shape can do Oly distance tris with an IM distance before I'm forty(37 now). In my mind it's how I feel. If i don't lose a pound but I'm in great shape and my cardio health is good and i can watch my daughter grow up so be it!!! It's the fitness you need to focus on. Enjoy playing the 3 sports and don't focus so much on the "ideal" weight. Chris

Some of you guys are thin!!!

I'm 5'10, 163lbs and feel just about right. I would like to get down to 158lbs, but that might be too thin.

I'm with you Blacktoe...I'm 5 feet 9 3/4 (basically 10)" and weight between 164-166 on any given day. I would also like to drop down to 155 as a long term goal but it's going to take time. It's the baby fat from when I was 200 lbs. that just won't go away.

Too many variables - body type etcetera.
I am 5'9" and my goal weight is 155 - on the other hand I have a friend who is almost 6' and weighs in at 190 and you would be hard pressed to find a ounce of fat on the guy (eats like a pig to that rat bas**rd).
A good dietician would be able to help you formulate a good answer to that question.

Dave, from the tone of your post, I have no doubt that you will make your goals. Keep at it, you'll feel much better when you get there.

Obese people don't do triathlons!! It's not what you weigh, it's how you look.

Dang! Your husband is a bean pole.  I'm 5'3" and weigh more then 130 right now.  I want to weigh less, but I'm going to worry about that after the holiday eating orgies are done.

I am 6' 1" and have been at 160 for a while. Since seriously training, I have maintained the same weight, but have lost 2inches in waist size and my body fat % is at 8%. In addition to the running, etc., I lift weights in order to get stronger.

I think the body fat percentage is the best way to determine whether you are at a fit weight, but that may not be the "ideal" personal weight for some people

July 2004 I was 6'3 235 lbs (I was also bench pressing 375lbs) I was doing extreme work in the gym. Was running a 24 minute 5k. Decided I would try to cut weight to see how it impacted my running. As of today 12/16/04 I weigh 210, and just finished a 5k race with a time of 20:30. I played college football. My senior year weight was 212. I am now 35. I am excited just to be down to my college weight. I love triathlons. It is my new passion. I also love the look on all the small skinny types when this big boy comes barreling by them. I am big but I have a goal weight of 200lbs (anything less I'd look waifish) with a 5k sub 19 and 10k sub 40. My 1500 swim is sub 25 and my bike times are improving (People love to draft me when I train with them) All this to say, most people defeat themselves mentally and this prevents them from pushing themselves to the limit. The runner Prefontain says "I wasn't the best runner because I was the best athlete. I was the best runner because I could endure more pain than the rest of the competition"

GO BIG CLYDESDALES
