Ironman North America

Sunny
Total Time = 7h 46m 12s
Overall Rank = /

Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

woke up at 4:25, had 1.5 organic poptarts and a banana.
Event warmup:

rode to transition on bike
Swim
  • 52m 36s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 29s / 100 yards
Comments:

for me this was good, I'm slow, but I felt very comfortable in the water, in the next few months, I'll be working on speed, then I'll start building the endurance for Ironman.
What would you do differently?:

I need some speed!
Transition 1
  • 00m
Comments:

couldn't get my wetsuit off one leg, luckily a volunteer helped me out.
What would you do differently?:

I didn't forget anything in transition which is good, the transition was LONG!
Bike
  • 4h 28m 49s
  • 56 miles
  • 12.50 mile/hr
Comments:

Terrible
What would you do differently?:

confidence, hills, not getting frustrated with myself, gear changes, can't predict bike problems, but hammering up the hills would have prevented them
Transition 2
  • 00m
Comments:

pretty good, I was really smiling after the bike, I love the run, I knew I was going to make it!
What would you do differently?:

Sunscreen!!! I am burnt raw and have water blisters, so painful!
Run
  • 2h 16m 9s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 23s  min/mile
Comments:

Paced so many people, felt so fast, it was wonderful!
What would you do differently?:

run harder? I know I could have done sub. 10 mm, I was feeling so good. The walking hurt overall, but I needed to, to get gels and gatorade down.
Post race
Warm down:

got bike and biked to hotel

What limited your ability to perform faster:

BIKE!! If I didn't have problems with my bike, and hammered the hills, I would have finished with a much bigger crowd of people.

Event comments:

the layout led to very high congestion. Seemed unorganized, and it was not a very spectator start/finish area. Fun race though, plan on doing it next year.

Way to hang in there in the bike portion.  Hills and headwind, you had two demons fighting you, but you conquered them and finished!  Nice job....

Congrats on your finish.  Sounds like you had a smile on your face which means it was a succesful race.  The hills were fun.  The headwinds on the last 10 miles kinda sucked.  I plan on doing it again next year.

LOL, I'm glad to see I wasn't the only person who managed to get onto the bike course without food.  Way to hang in there and push to the finish with a good run pace!

CONGRATULATIONS, RACHEL!!! You are an amazing athlete and you did a great job out there on a tough course.

Your swim was excellent and very strong--I know you've worked hard on it and feel like you struggle, but it was tight, clobbery and swelly out there and you did well.

I feel you on the bike. 'Nuff said.

What a lift for me to see you inbound on the run while I was outbound on the 2nd loop. It gave me hope I could finish, too! You looked strong, and fantastic, and you took a few seconds to meet me and you were SOOOO nice.

I'm glad you stopped by dinner for a few minutes--YOU ROCK--onward to Arizona!

Great job out there, Rachel!  That wind must've been something crazy!

And huge grats to you for toughing it out and finishing despite your fall-overs on the bike.  That takes real courage.

And thanks for stopping by at Karl Strauss after the race -- it was fun to meet you.  Good luck training for IMAZ!!

You finished strong, isn't that what it's all about? Especially on such a tough course.

Well done!

Best of luck in your IM!
