The ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon
43F / 6C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 37m 52s
Overall Rank = 332/8611
Age Group = 30-39
Age Group Rank = 110/1361
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 4am and drank 2 cups of coffee. Load and hydrate. Took some carb-pro and drove to Marts Station.
Event warmup:

COLD windy cloudy morning. Ran around and stretched. Chatted with random folks in my assigned corral. Stand in front of a truck to shelter from the occasionally gusty cold wind.
Run
  • 1h 37m 52s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 07m 28s  min/mile
Comments:

Personally, the weather was too cold for running. I am just glad it's over and still have a smile on my face. I was doing fine and ahead of my projected time through mile 9. My body slowly bonk on me at this point. It does not help since the run course decidedly became more hilly. Literally, it BLOWS! I would like to comment that the last mile was a never-ending mile -- it sure did not feel like a mile! I am sure most of you agree with me here. I just slowed down (down to a slow 8+/mi pace jog)and had to see so many many runners pass me -- sucks but I am just as happy to keep jogging to the finish line and not stop.
What would you do differently?:

Actually train when I am supposed to and try to find time to adjust my work schedule. Continue to plan for better hydration during the run.
Post race
Warm down:

Strecthed, hydrate ... and tried to stay warm.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The weather. Actually, the course is slightly tougher than expected.

Event comments:

Great event. I now know how to prep for this race. I am happy even though I did not finish in my IDEAL projected time. But it is still a great time for me.

Cheers!

Note: Male division ranking -- 270/3803 ; Age Grade: 61.6% (Local Class)

I thought that last mile (from the "1 mile to go" sign) was really long too. : )
