The ING Georgia Marathon & Half Marathon
50F / 10C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 48m 58s
Overall Rank = 1097/8569
Age Group = M30-39
Age Group Rank = 327/1355
Pre-race routine:

We stayed at the Ritz. Good thing Ninja set the alarm since my phone ran our of juice and I had set the alarm for 5:30am. At 4:45am I could not sleep anymore so I got up to get ready.
Event warmup:

None. Walked around with Ninja, ABA and GG until it was 6:40ish. It was way cold and I hung out in Corral 6 admiring the talent around me.

2 gels and 1/2 banana just before the start.
Run
  • 1h 48m 58s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 19s  min/mile
Comments:

My pacing strategy was 8:45 for first 5 miles, 8:25 for next 5 miles, and 8:05 for finally 10k. This worked perfectly although the downhills had me faster than 8:45 for the most part.

1 gel at mile 7 with a little water.

What would you do differently?:

I might could have pushed myself a little hard during the middle miles. But I wouldn't do that much different.
Post race
Warm down:

Back to hotel for shower. Then lunch with NAMC crew.

Event comments:

The course changes from 07 to 08 worked great to me. The course felt downhill almost the entire way to me. The new finish (tight quarters through CO Park) was awesome. I love running in tight quarters.

Drink stations every mile made the miles go by fast.

The thing they need to work on is the start corral system. It was tough to get back to corral 6 when it got crowded.

Otherwise, I think they have this nailed (amazing that this is the 2nd year only). This race blows away the Atlanta Half at Turkey day.

I thought the race was about 80% uphill, but I'm glad you felt differently - probably was even more fun! Congrats on a great race!

If I was staying at the Ritz in a warm bed with my wife, it'd be tough getting my happy rear out to run in the cold.

That in and of itself is an accomplishment.  Nice run also
